Hongkong actress-singer Elanne Kong, 34, has been locked in a bitter feud with her former company Universe Entertainment & Culture Group for the past seven years.
The label sued her for breach of contract in 2014 when she refused to renew her contract with them, and details of their alleged mistreatment have surfaced during recent court hearings.
According to Elanne, she was told that she should extract all her teeth and replace them with implants so that she would have a perfect smile. This occurred when she was 16, but she did not go through with the procedure when a doctor advised against it.
Her lawyers allege her mistreatment by the company, and brought up an incident where management did nothing to stop upskirt photos of her taken by the paparazzi from being published.
They are also said to have barred Elanne from denying dating rumours involving Universe’s chairman Daniel Lam, who is married, causing “considerable damage to her reputation”.
Elanne also alleged that Universe allocated an “inadequate” sum of money for her living expenses but told her that she was not allowed to take public transport or eat street food as it would “damage her reputation as a celeb”.
She also said that she was made to shell out HK$80k (S$13.9k) for a dress to wear to the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards. The sponsored dresses didn’t fit the actress and the stylist said that Elanne had to pay for “something expensive” out of her own pocket as she was nominated for the Best Actress Award alongside big names Miriam Yeung, Sammi Cheng and Zhou Xun, and had to “wear something of that level”.
Sadly, Elanne lost the trophy to Miriam, who won for her role in Love In The Buff.
