Being the child of a successful celebrity isn’t always a bed of roses, but it certainly has its perks as well — especially if your parents are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure you have a comfortable life.
Luckily for Brian Hsu aka Hsu Xin Yang, the eldest son of veteran Taiwanese host Hsu Nai Lin, his 62-year-old dad belongs in that very generous category... at least, according to a recent news report.
While Brian, who turns 30 later this month, did not take advantage of Nai Lin’s celebrity status when he joined showbiz himself, he’s still able to benefit from his famous father’s success in other ways.
On Tuesday (Oct 5), Taiwan’s Mirror Media reported that Nai Lin splurged over NT$40mil (S$1.9mil) on a new apartment in Taipei’s Neihu district. An inside source claimed that the 175 sqm, three-bedroom unit that he bought is meant to be a gift for Brian.
Mirror Media noted that this could be Nai Lin’s subtle (or not?) way of encouraging Brian to get married quickly. Nai Lin’s second child, his only daughter Sabrina, tied the knot last year, and he also has a younger son, Ting Yong.
Brian has been in a stable relationship with his Russian girlfriend Anna for about five years. Anna, who also goes by the name Soa, graduated from National Taiwan University and is a singer.
Nai Lin certainly approves of their relationship and is known to dote on his potential future daughter-in-law, reportedly investing NT$1mil (S$49,000) into the launch of Soa’s EP last year.
Like many other stars, Nai Lin is a keen investor in real estate and has multiple properties under his name in both Taiwan and Canada.
It’s estimated that the four properties he owns in Taipei, including the place he just got for Brian, have a total market value of more than NT$400mil (S$19.5mil).
He also makes some side income from renting out his two houses in Vancouver, which earns him an extra NT$100,000 (S$4,900) every month.
However, when Mirror Media contacted the star to verify the news about the latest addition to his real estate collection, his manager denied that Nai Lin had bought a house for Brian.
