Insta-Buzz: What The Stars Were Up To This Week

Here are some of our favourite snaps from the past week.

Love was in the air this past week with at least three-wedding related posts, a 28th anniversary celebration, and tributes to family. We’re certainly hoping to see more of such uplifting content as the year comes to a close.

Kayly Loh got hitched to her “Carouheller” husband

Wedding bells rang this weekend for the actress and her commercial director husband J, but before that, Kayly told us the funny story about how they met and also posted a bunch of stylish snaps from their pre-wedding shoot.

We’re fairly certain she wasn’t expecting things to go this way when she first started dealing with her husband, whom she called a “Carouheller” (Carousell seller from hell), on the marketplace app, but life does work in mysterious ways.

Also tying the knot soon — on January 15 next year, to be precise — is James and his influencer wife-to-be Nicole Chang Min.

The actor shared several photos from what appears to be their pre-wedding shoot on Monday, along with a touching promise to be there for her “through the good and the bad, for every laughter and every tear, to an eternity of sunrise and sunsets together”.

Could this be a hint that the billionaire heiress’ big day will be here very soon as well? On Thursday, Kim, whose fiancé popped the question in September, shared two very cute candid pics from their pre-wedding shoot and declared that she is “squeezing onto [him] for life”.

Ase Wang was reunited with her parents after two years

Like many other families around the world, the Phoon Huat scion and her parents were separated for two years ‘cos of the pandemic, but they were finally reunited for the first time this week, which is also the first time that Ase’s adorable daughter Kaya got to meet her grandparents as well. Just look at all those heart-warming smiles!

Nurul Aini apologised after a hotel booking agent she promoted turned out to be an alleged scammer

Nurul Aini apologised after a hotel booking agent she promoted turned out to be an alleged scammer

We’ve all had great experiences with a product and service and were excited to tell our friends about it (good things must share, right?), but for Nurul, things didn’t quite work out the way she expected after a third-party hotel booking agent she had promoted on her Instagram turned out to be “an alleged online scammer”.

Although Nurul’s own staycation “went well”, others who went through the same agent were not so lucky as their bookings were affected even after payment was made. The user now appears to have gone MIA and Nurul apologised to anyone who booked a hotel stay ‘cos of her recommendation, while also taking the opportunity to remind her followers to be careful.

Allan Wu’s daughter received an academic award…

Allan had a #ProudPapa moment this week when Sage, his 17-year-old daughter with ex-wife Wong Lilin, was awarded Student of the Year for her grade at SJI International School, which she and her brother have been attending since pre-school.

“It has been such a joy watching you grow up for this proud father so keep putting in the work because this is only the beginning of many more amazing things to come for you!” gushed the star, who previously shared that Sage’s dream university is Stanford.

… and so did Jacelyn Tay’s son

These celebs certainly are raising their kids right. On Wednesday, Jacelyn posted a shot of her 10-year-old son Zavier holding up his Edusave Certificate of Academic Achievement, which was awarded to him “for achieving good academic performance and demonstrating good conduct”.

The former Mediacorp actress also shared that Zavier had gotten the same award in Primary 1, but went through “tough years” in Primary 2 and 3 ‘cos of her divorce, so it’s nice to see that he has managed to bounce back again.

The celeb couple marked 28 years of marriage on Monday with a lovely family dinner, which Geping revealed was arranged by their kids Tay Ying and Calvert.

“After 28 years, an anniversary is no longer a celebration for 2 person, but a family of 4 (sic),” he wrote on Instagram.

Congrats! And cheers to many more happy anniversaries ahead.

Ian Fang celebrated his birthday

Ian Fang celebrated his birthday

Ian broke his one-month social media silence — he hadn’t uploaded anything since that now-deleted emo post about “not every Christopher Lee” having “his Fann Wong” — on Monday, which was his 32nd birthday, to thank everyone for their well-wishes and to wish them good health and happiness in return.

Glad to see he’s in a much better mood.

Joanne Peh and her daughter planted trees to help the environment

The actress and her little girl recently dropped by Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to learn about the importance for conserving wetland areas and to plant a couple of trees, which she explained were “to help protect the coastline from erosion”. Looks like Baby Qi certainly isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty!

Jamie Yeo passed her IELTS exam

Jamie Yeo passed her IELTS exam

The former radio DJ is relocating to England with her family next year and has been busy dealing with all the necessary procedures, which include taking an English speaking and listening test for her UK visa application.

On Wednesday, she proudly announced that she had passed the exam and explained that she needed to sit for it in the first place as she doesn’t have a university degree (Singapore unis didn’t recognise her US high school cert so she had to “go the Polytechnic route”, after which she joined showbiz).

Kimberly Chia got real about her insecurities as a pregnant woman

Kimberly Chia got real about her insecurities as a pregnant woman

The newly-wed actress and first-time mother-to-be may always look picture perfect on Instagram, but she confessed that seeing her baby bump get “significantly bigger” has left her with “mixed feelings” when she looks at herself in the mirror.

“Was I affected because it’s the first time seeing my body look so different or maybe I’m worried about how my body will look after pregnancy? Or was it fear because my industry puts a lot of emphasis on how we look and I was afraid of being judged?” she wondered.

However, while it won’t be easy, she has decided to “learn to embrace [her] new body as it changes” and encouraged everyone, pregnant or not, to “learn to love [their] bodies”.

Vivian Lai enjoyed a winter getaway in Italy

Vivian Lai enjoyed a winter getaway in Italy

Guess Vivian isn’t too troubled by her husband, former Pokka CEO Alain Ong’s recent legal troubles, judging from the fact that she’s been enjoying a relaxing holiday in the picturesque Italian town of Mondovì this past week.

“Grateful to be here!! Happiness is… cherishing what you have now,” she wrote alongside photos of her posing against backdrops of majestic buildings and having fun in the snow. Wonder who her travel companions were.

Li Nanxing, Fann Wong and more teamed up for a song about hawker centres

Did you know that December 16 marked the first anniversary of Singapore’s hawker culture being added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity?

Sadly, that hasn’t really stopped hawkers from being badly affected by the pandemic, so Nanxing, Fann, Constance Song, Shane Pow, Vivian Lai, Vincent Ng, Rayson Tan, Julie Tan, and Luo Kemin got together to record an original song called ‘Our Dining Hall’, which will hopefully inspire cravings for local fare and mass visits to hawker centres everywhere.

Suhaimi Yusof casually showed off his trophy collection in a tribute to his mum

Suhaimi Yusof casually showed off his trophy collection in a tribute to his mum

It’s no secret that Suhaimi certainly treasures his mother, whom he declared is more valuable than all the awards he’s received over the years (which we think should go without saying, but we get the point).

Despite it not being a special occasion of any kind, the actor decided to pay tribute to his mum on Thursday, calling her his “forever Wonder Woman” and issuing an important reminder to everyone else with old parents: “Be nice to them, visit them and never ever raise your voice [at] them.”
