Jackie Chan Bought 8 Houses In China In The '90s For S$780K; They Are Now Worth At Least S$20mil Each

Yes, each.

Martial arts legend Jackie Chan, 68, is one of the biggest and richest movie stars of all time. According to reports, he has an estimated US$400mil net worth.

So it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Jackie is also somewhat of an investment expert.

Here's what one courtyard house looks like

In 1990, Jackie was working in Beijing where he lived in a hostel arranged for him by a production crew. However, the hostel was old, its toilets dirty, and was in need of repairs and a fresh coat of paint. Safe to say that it didn’t meet his standards.

Jackie, who was going to be based in China for the better part of the year, decided that he couldn’t continue staying in the hostel and so he bought a house in Beijing.

After getting recommendations from housing agents, Jackie eventually settled on a traditional Chinese courtyard home (si he yuan), which cost him 500K Yuan (S$98K).

Jackie eventually snapped up eight of these courtyard houses for 4mil yuan (S$780K). Surely, chump change for the wealthy star, who at one point commanded US$15mil (S$21.4mil) per movie.

He now has passive income that he doesn't really need

After Jackie wrapped up his work in Beijing, he returned to Hong Kong and didn't give those houses any more thought.

According to reports, by the noughties, the value of each house went up from  500K yuan to 12mil yuan (S$2.4mil).

The houses are said to be worth at least 100mil yuan (S$20mil) each now, which is how the rich get richer.
