Jacky Wu To Retire From Showbiz Next Year To Focus On His Businesses; Says He Will Do It “No Matter How Much Money” Anyone Pays Him
The Taiwanese host has hinted at his intention to retire many times in the past. Could this time be for real?
It’s no secret that veteran Taiwanese entertainer Jacky Wu wishes to take a step back from showbiz.
Since 2009, the 60-year-old has mentioned many times his desire to retire and take things slow.
However, after more than a decade, not only is he still going strong, he’s at the top of his game.
Jacky currently has his plate full hosting three variety shows, including Super Entourage which he hosts with his eldest daughter Sandy Wu.

However, it seems he’s determined to make his retirement dream come true soon.
During a recent event organised by a live streaming platform, Jacky shared that he will quit showbiz after hosting the variety shows for one more year, so he can focus on his business.
"No matter how much money you pay me, I won't do it!" he said.
His businesses are making bank
Jacky owns several successful businesses including a talent agency, and has fingers in F&B, retail and LED manufacturing. His health food company even won the The National Brand Yushan Award last year.
He says he has a penchant for developing new products and wishes to spend his time doing more meaningful things.
And it doesn't hurt that his businesses are "more successful than whatever [he's] doing in showbiz".
While it’s unclear what Jacky’s net worth is, he’s consistently on the list of top earning Taiwanese celebrities. In 2020, he made NT$88mil (S$4.15mil) from hosting alone.

However, things weren't always smooth sailing for Jacky.
He came from humble beginnings and used to work part-time at a petrol kiosk where he was paid NT$25 (around S$1.20) an hour.
When he entered showbiz at the age of 15, he did not expect to make it his lifelong career. Had he known, he probably wouldn’t have stepped foot in it, he said.
Nonetheless, through hard work, persistence, and tenacity, he went on to become one of the most successful stars in Taiwan.
“As long as you put your mind to it, there is nothing in life that cannot be accomplished,” he said.
