Fancy a trip down memory lane?

Former Mediacorp stars Joey Swee, 44, and Peter Yu, 52, did just that earlier this week, when they met up for a quick catch-up session over a meal.

And it looks like their reunion got Joey reminiscing about the 1999 drama they both starred in — My Teacher, My Friend.

Before that, here’s a quick refresher on the two former actors. Joey, or Xu Qi, for those who know her by her Chinese name, retired from showbiz in 2009 to become a full-time mum. She did make a comeback in 2018 to act in longform drama Reach for the Skies.

Joey is married to Indonesian-Chinese businessman Gani Bustan and can now be seen in the reality show Superman Juniors, with her two younger sons, Jefferson, 11, and Algernon, seven. Her eldest boy Kynaston is 14.

Peter is relatively more active than Joey in showbiz, having acted in dialect drama Hoseh Bo? (How Are You?) as well as 2020 Mediacorp English drama, Reunion, in recent years.

He was married to Quan Yifeng for 10 years, before they called it quits in a high-profile divorce in 2008. Their daughter Eleanor Lee is now 21. He subsequently got hooked on gambling and drinking, racking up a huge debt. However, he has since cleaned up his act. Peter wed sales merchandiser Brenda Leow in 2011 and the couple has two sons, Israel, four, and Christian, six.

1 of 2 Peter and Joey in My Teacher, My Friend

My Teacher, My Friend was Joey’s first lead role in a drama, after entering showbiz as a Star Search 1997 contestant two years prior.

In the drama, Joey played a vivacious relief teacher who got posted to a small school in Pulau Ubin with only eight students.

In her post about their meetup, Joey mused that Peter was “her teacher, her senior, her youth, and her on-screen partner”.

Apart from My Teacher, My Friend, they also starred opposite each other in the 1997's Not The Facts and 1998's Office Affairs.

Joey shared a number of clips from My Teacher, My Friend as well, laughing that her “round face” then was “too cute”.

2 of 2 Here's to an eventual full reunion

A couple of Joey’s former onscreen students also replied to her posts, reminiscing about the month-and-a-half that they spent filming together.

And it looks like that was the catalyst that got Joey started on her quest to find all the ‘students' that she taught back then.

“It's time for class, Teacher Xu’s looking for you guys. Would love to complete my tag,” she wrote in a subsequent post.

My Teacher My Friend that [was filmed] 22 years ago, is everyone doing okay? Will I have the chance to find you guys?” she added.

Joey has since found three of her eight onscreen students — Shui Ya, Mei Li and Jing Zhan — and she went on to tag the IG profiles of the actors who played them.

“Cong Ming, Ah Di, Jing Bu, Feng Ling, Ah Li, where are you guys?” she asked.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a full reunion eventually!
