K-pop idol group Astro’s Moonbin has passed away at the age of 25.

The singer, who debuted as part of the six-member boy group in 2016, was found dead in his Gangnam home last night (Apr 19) by his manager.

According to the Korean police, Moonbin died of an apparent suicide, and discussions regarding an autopsy are currently ongoing to determine his exact cause of death.

This morning (Apr 20), Moonbin's agency, Fantagio, released a statement regarding his passing, but did not address his cause of death.

“On April 19, Astro member Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky. Although it cannot compare to the grief of the bereaved family that had to part with their beloved son and brother, his fellow artists and staff at Fantagio, who have been together with him a long time, are also mourning the departed amidst tremendous shock and sorrow,” wrote Fantagio in a statement which they shared on Twitter.

The agency also said that Moonbin’s family wishes to hold a quiet funeral, which will only be attended by family, close friends and agency colleagues.

The idol was set to go on tour with his sub-unit member, Sanha

Moonbin was set to perform at the upcoming Dream Concert in Busan on May 27 with his groupmate Yoon San Ha, as part of the Astro sub-unit Moonbin & Sanha.

Moonbin’s funeral will be held this Saturday (Apr 22), which was the date originally slated for the Moonbin & Sanha concert in Macau.

The duo’s concert in Jakarta, which was to happen on May 13, has been cancelled as well.

According to reports, Astro’s MJ, who is currently serving in the military, has taken emergency leave to attend Moonbin’s wake.

Another Astro member, Cha Eun Woo, who was in Los Angeles for work, has also flown back to Korea. The actor, who posted a pic of himself at Coachella three days ago, was scheduled to return home on Apr 24th.

Eun Woo and Moonbin are known to be very close and fans often shared photos of the two chatting and laughing with each other during the group's events.

K-pop fans have also taken to social media to share that Moonbin died on the same day as his mother’s birthday.
