Kayly Loh, Who’s Also A Florist, Didn’t Have A Lot Of Flowers On Her Big Day 'Cos She Sees "Too Much Wastage From Weddings"
The 33-year-old Mediacorp actress got married on Sunday and many of her celeb pals were at the banquet.
Mediacorp actress Kayly Loh, 33, tied the knot with 35-year-old commercial director Jonathan Chong on Sunday (Dec 19), and many of her famous friends were among the 120 guests attending the dinner banquet at Raffles Hotel.
Throughout the night, Rebecca Lim, Denise Camillia Tan, Priscelia Chan, and Tay Ying shared shots of the newlyweds during the event.
Hong Huifang and YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo also posted pics with the blushing bride, who wore two different outfits including a sleek pantsuit with lush pleated ruffles.
Kayly shared in a WhatsApp interview with 8days.sg that she specifically requested for pleats to match the theme of her wedding decor, which was inspired by tropical pleated palm leaves.
The garden-related inspo also extended to her first gown, a sculptural dress by local atelier Bridal Veil that was, as she said, “aptly named Calla Lily”.

As pretty as a flower

Ironically, there weren’t a lot of actual flowers used in the decorations, even though Kayly owns her own floral studio and could probably have drowned the entire venue in blooms if she wanted to.
“I see too much wastage from weddings, so the decor was kept very minimal with lots of potted plants and tropical foliage,” she explained. “The table centerpieces were made out of potted plants covered in real moss, which the guests could bring home.”
Everyone also received jars of kaya as door gifts, and Kayly woke up the next morning with lots of messages from friends raving about their new plant hauls and excitedly telling her about having the coconut jam for breakfast.

The ballroom was minimally decorated but still lovely

Those are some huge orchids, though!
Before the dinner banquet, the couple had an afternoon church wedding as Jonathan, whom we previously only knew as “J”, is Catholic and Kayly, while not religious, wanted to respect his beliefs.
It was during then when she experienced the most memorable part of the entire day.
“When my dad walked me down the aisle, I could feel his nerves and had to remind him to walk slower,” Kayly recalled. “When he handed me over to J, he had tears in his eyes and told him to take good care of me. That made me tear a bit too.”

The day was full of touching moments

More tears were shed during their private vow exchange, which Kayly and Jonathan arranged as they knew “that the day would be hectic”, and when they were giving their speech during the evening banquet.
“I didn’t expect myself nor him to cry. He usually never cries,” said Kayly. “When we went from table to table to take photos, everyone’s eyes were red and they said they were very touched. Someone told me, ‘This is the most tears I’ve seen at a wedding.’ I did not expect that!”

For their first day as husband and wife, Kayly said that they had breakfast with their parents. “It was nice ‘cos it was the first meal we were having as a family,” she gushed.
Other than that, they just want to “take the rest of the day to bask in all the moments” as they were “still reeling from everything that happened” the day before.
As for how she feels to finally be married, Kayly wrote: “Thankful. We had so much help from so many people. Planning a wedding really isn’t just a two-person affair. We were both showered with so much love and just feel so lucky to have all of their blessings.”
“We hadn’t seen some of our friends in a while ‘cos of the pandemic, so being able to spend time with them was really nice,” she continued. “We also got some good advice from other married couples who told us that this is where the work begins and shared what it takes to make a marriage work. I feel excited and can’t wait to experience life with him.”

Congrats to Kayly and Jonathan!
