Kenny Bee, Who Was Once S$35mil In Debt, Celebrates Tony Leung Ka-Fai’s Birthday In Luxurious Shanghai Home

It’s certainly a lot bigger than it looked in Alan Tam’s earlier photos of the place.

Back in 2020, a pre-scandal Alan Tam shared some pics from a star-studded poker night gathering at Kenny Bee’s Shanghai pad, which was then described by some as looking on the “small” side (compared to other sprawling celeb cribs, at least).

However, it turns out that those areas may have just been cosy nooks in a much bigger space.

Recently, a netizen posted a few photos from what appeared to be a birthday celebration for Tony Leung Ka-Fai, judging by the numerous cakes in front of the veteran Hongkong actor, who turned 64 on February 1.

Tony was also seen forming a band with Kenny, 68, and 50-year-old Taiwanese rocker Shin, but unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any recordings of their performance.

Still, netizens and the media were entertained by something else in the background (literally) — the spacious, all-white interior of Kenny’s home.

Well, the person who shared the images never actually mentioned where they were, the wall panelling, colour scheme, and furnishings look a lot like the ones pictured in other shots of Kenny’s not-so-humble abode.

The netizen’s post history also shows that he was in Shanghai, which is where Kenny’s residence is located, so it doesn’t really take much to put two and two together.

While Alan’s earlier snaps of Kenny’s house make it look rather cramped (or maybe ‘cos there were so many people in there), the newer photos feature a huge hall with tall windows and high ceilings that give the place a very airy and luxurious feel.

Definitely not a reno job that came cheap.

Kenny’s current financial status is certainly a far cry from his days of being over HK$200mil (S$34.6mil) in debt.

In 2002, the Cantopop singer was forced to file for bankruptcy after the property market crashed during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, causing Kenny, who had taken out large loans to invest in real estate on the advice of his ex-wife Teresa Cheung, to lose millions.

Fortunately for him, he had his then-girlfriend, now-wife Fan Jiang to help tide him over the tough period. In 2006, Kenny was discharged from bankruptcy and has since gone back to raking in big bucks.

We mean, just look at where he lives.
