Kim Lim & Fiancé To Provide Meals For 1,500 Frontliners For A Week; In Talks To Offer Air Tickets So These “Real Fighters” Can Travel Home

“We want to remind them, through our love of food, that there are people out here who are cheering them on,” said the billionaire heiress.

Billionaire heiress and entrepreneur Kim Lim is sharing the joy of her recent engagement by teaming up with her new fiancé to provide two meals a day for 1,500 frontliners at various hospitals around Singapore for a week, beginning this Saturday (Nov 6).

The 30-year-old’s latest philanthropic project — she’s certainly no stranger to those — is a collaboration with F&B company Fei Siong Group, who gave them “really good discounts” on traditional favourites from popular local eateries such as Encik Tan, as Kim shared with 8days.sg over WhatsApp.

While she declined to reveal how much she contributed financially, she declared that she “will support any cause [she holds] close to [her] heart”.

“We hope to give cleaners and staff [the] recognition they deserve, and make them feel appreciated,” she said.

Since this is the first cause she’s supporting together with her hubby-to-be, Kim opted to #supportlocal with the choice of dishes they’re sending out as the two of them “share a love of all kinds of food, especially the food [they] grew up with”, as she said in an official press release.

“Things have been tough for the frontliners and those invisible people we don’t see working hard in the background, like our cleaners or janitors. We want to remind them, through our love of food, that there are people out here who are cheering them on. We want to thank them for every effort they have put in.”

Kim previously arranged for 1,100 care packages to be sent to staff at Fullerton Health’s vaccination centres and swabbing sites back in July.

She also delivered lunch to Singapore General Hospital workers in the earlier days of the pandemic and donated huts to families in Mongolia for her birthday this year, so yup, she’s definitely got a big heart.

In addition, Kim’s social enterprise Kelhealth Group, which houses her businesses Illumia Therapeutics and Papilla Haircare, is in talks with Singapore Airlines to gift essential workers with air tickets so they can travel overseas to see their families.

She told us that the idea came about as soon as the Ministry of Health lifted the suspension for overseas leave applications for all healthcare workers in October.

“I didn’t realise how tough our healthcare workers have it, and to finally be able to apply for overseas travel and go home to see your families, I want to support that,” said Kim. “I want to make it easier for them, so I went to SIA and we had a really long (but good) discussion about it!”

Kim continued, “I truly admire [healthcare workers] for their courage and strength. To be on your feet all day, to tend to the needs of those who are feeling unwell, it can be tiring and mentally draining for both the frontline and unseen heroes.”

“From the bottom of our hearts, we’re really thankful for everything they have done, and know that we at Kelhealth will always remember the real fighters during these trying times.”

While Kim would usually go down to personally deliver the food to hospitals in the past, it’s unclear if she’ll be able to do it this time as she is currently in Paris with her fiancé and another friend.

She wanted to keep the details of her trip private — though you can see snippets of what she’s been up to on her Instagram — and would only share that travelling now is “definitely not the same as pre-COVID”.

Naturally, she misses her four-year-old son Kyden “terribly”, but she also thinks that being away from him “actually brings [them] closer together, in a weird way” ‘cos “all the time we spend together is quality time, she says.

And anyway, mother and son have lots of future globetrotting adventures to look forward to. “I’m excited for when I can finally bring him along on my trips, definitely when he is a little older!”
