Lai Lok Yi To Produce Variety Shows For TVB As Part Of His New Contract With The Broadcaster

It’s said that Eric Tsang, who is the general manager of TVB, personally discussed the recontract details with the actor.

With its stable of stars dwindling faster than you can say Barrack O'Karma 1968, TVB knows it has to do something to retain its artistes.

Rumour has it that the broadcaster is now offering them different opportunities within the company.

And it looks like this strategy is working well, at least with Lai Lok Yi, 42.

Will Lok Yi go from actor to working behind-the-scenes full time?

It was previously rumoured that Lok Yi, who has been with TVB for two decades, was put in "cold storage" for taking sides with TVB high-ranking exec Sandy Yu, and was waiting for his contract to end.

However, it's now said that TVB is going all out to retain the actor, with general manager Eric Tsang personally discussing the recontract terms with him.

And it has worked. Lok Yi reportedly decided to extend his contract for another two years.

During this period, he will star in one drama, and would use the rest of his time to produce variety shows.

It seems Lok Yi has a talent in that field.

Last year, he made his debut as a producer on variety show Walking With You 2, which is a collaboration between TVB and Malaysia TV station Astro. The show was well-received by audiences in Malaysia and achieved decent ratings.

He went on to produce Roar of Prosperity 2022 and Walking With You 3, which were also minor hits.

It's said that TVB is now planning to let Lok Yi produce the upcoming Yan Chai Charity Show next January. The entire production process will also be filmed as a reality show.

When asked about his recontract details, Lok Yi said he's unable to say much as the information is confidential.

However, he confirmed that "[the collaboration] is a happy one" and that he's "looking forward to trying new things" in the near future.

As for rumours that TVB is also offering him a seven-figure sum to make him stay? Lok Yi simply said: "Lets not talk about the amount, but it is a happy figure."
