K-Drama’s 7 Most Fashionable Leading Ladies In 2020

From Yoon Se-ri in Crash Landing on You to Ko Moon-young in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, here are the fashionistas who blew us away in our favourite Korean dramas this year.

We shall remember 2020 as the year many of us turned to Korean dramas for comfort and escape. The romance, the OTT plots, the impossibly handsome and devoted male protagonists, the porelessly-perfect female leads, and the fashion, oh, the fashion. Why do the characters in K-dramas dress and accessorise so darn stylishly?

Just like how we don’t question the convoluted twists and turns of a blockbuster K-drama, we don’t question the fashion. We just ogle, appreciate and try to copy.

Here are 8days.sg's 7 picks for most stylish Korean drama female characters in an extraordinary year for K-drama.

#1: Yoon Se-ri, played by Son Ye-Jin, in Crash Landing on You

Besides the amazing plot, the sizzling chemistry between the leads and, um, Hyun Bin, here’s another reason CLOY was one of the most-loved K-dramas of 2020 — the fashion. When female lead Se-ri is not in North Korea making flowery curtains and ajumma outfits look like retro fashion is the biggest Spring/Summer 2020 trend, she’s back in Seoul looking galboss-sharp and lowkey sexy with her power suits. Which Se-ri do we like better? It’s a seriously tough choice.

#2: Seo Dan, played by Seo Ji-hye, in Crash Landing on YouSeo Dan is our fashion heroine, for modelling one devastatingly stylish outfit after another, despite being surrounded by questionable fashion choices in North Korea. With outfits from noted European labels such as Loewe and Dries Van Noten, she made runway pieces work in everyday life, and knows when to turn up the wow factor, like when she stepped off the plane to win back her fiancé. Her outfits are classic and powerful with a feminine twist that go perfectly with her statement hairclips, jet black long hair and almost-permanent scowl.
#3: Jo Yi-Seo, played by Kim Da-Mi, in Itaewon ClassIn a world of K-drama leading ladies in sweet or feminine outfits, perfectly-coiffed hair and dainty accessories, Yi-Seo’s punky and devil-may-care street chic is a breath of fresh air. From Valentino to Korean designer brands such as Juun.J, her fashion evolution throughout the show was visually stimulating, as the plot thickens. From her initial grungy, oversized jackets and punk-rock style to something more refined but still with attitude to spare, this is a sassy female K-drama character which delightfully bucks the trend.
#4: Ko Moon-young, played by Seo Ye-ji, in It’s Okay to Not Be OkayThe fashion in It’s Okay almost stole the show. Almost. From Moon-Young’s too-stylish-for-bed nightgowns to dramatic puff-sleeved fashion confections, her amazing bags and accessories to her ant waist, this was perhaps the most scrutinised K-drama this year in terms of fashion and what the female lead wore, because her style was so unique and quirky yet on-trend. We’re still dreaming of those nightgowns, and the giant bows on her shoulders…
#5: Jang Man-Wol, played by IU, in Hotel del LunaGhosts, ghouls and Givenchy? Man Wol may might have been around for thousands of years, but her dressing has definitely kept up with the times, although there is definitely a bit of a vintage vibe going on. From flowy dresses with retro high collars and puffy sleeves to sleek, symmetrical little black dresses with gold bold accents for when she’s taking out unruly souls, she’s breathtaking in every outfit.
#6: Yeo Da-kyung, played by Han So Hee, in The World of The MarriedA controversial character to put on a best-dressed list, perhaps, though we must say Da-Kyung has a killer fashion sense. She does lots of slouchy knitwear, satin blouses and patterned tweed to show who wears the pants in the house. Her look is minimalist yet subtly sexy, and her handbags are amazing.

#7: Seo Dal-mi, played by Bae Suzy, in Start-Up

Last but not least, the recently-concluded K-drama hit, Start-Up, starring young entrepreneurs in South Korea’s fictitious Silicon Valley, called Sandbox. Dal-mi is not just the love interest of the two male leads, but also interests the audience with her dress sense, which is sorta like girl boss with a hint of cute. She wears a lot of silk chiffon tops that accentuate her waist, as well as stylish trenches, peplum blazers and oversized blazers. Add a Dior bag or two (we spotted the Dior Bobby, Dior Lady and Dior Book Tote) and that Lancome lipstick, and she’s all set as the Sandbox fashion darling. As for her love life… Are you Team Han Ji-pyeong or Team Nam Do-san?
