This Is How You Can Safely Consume Essential Oils
Yes, you can have your rosemary aromatherapy and eat it.
Essential oils make your house smell great, but you've probably never thought of eating them, because, well, some of them are poisonous when ingested. But did you know that some pure essential oils, if added in the right amounts, can be used as food flavouring?
The new Young Living Plus Dietary Essential Oils are a special range of essential oils made especially for consumption. There are five flavours — lemon, peppermint, rosemary, dill and celery seed essential oils — which will totally up your cooking game, save space in your fridge, and hopefully reduce food wastage. The idea is to add a few dashes to your dish, desserts and drinks to enhance the taste of your food, while bringing about all the benefits of that oil. They can also be used to substitute spices and herbs, and are healthier alternatives to artificial food flavourings.
Yup, the oils are safe for oven. Will this change your life? Hmm...
For a dash of citrusy flavour in your cakes, instead of buying lemons, an alternative would be to dip a toothpick in a bit of Lemon Plus essential oil and swirl it in your cake mixture. You can then store the oil for future use. No need to mess around with actual lemons.
Not only do these essential oils add great flavour, some oils like Peppermint Plus and Lemon Plus also contain health benefits when taken internally, such as immune support and antioxidant properties.
Says Karen Cornejo, Country Manager of Young Living Singapore: “These essential oils offer the same bright, fresh flavours as conventional herbs and citrus fruits, eliminating the process of chopping, mincing, zesting or juicing these ingredients. Food wastage can also be minimised as consumers no longer have to worry about wilted herbs or spoiled fruit. And the Plus oils have a long shelf life.
Besides desserts, the vegan-friendly oils can be used in dishes such as this barramundi, featuring Dill and Lemon Plus oils. Here's the process: Lay your fish on aluminum foil, throw in some salt and pepper, and three drops of Dill Plus essential oil, and bake for 12 minutes. Take it from us: That tiny 5ml bottle of essential oil works wonders in a dish. Even kitchen noobs can whip up a flavourful dish that will impress mum.
How do you know if an essential oil is 100 percent safe to consume? Apparently, you can check the label to make sure it’s pure essential oil. So don't just anyhow steal your aunt’s aromatherapy oils and eat, okay? Some oils contain a mix of ingredients, which can be poisonous when ingested.
These essential oils are made for consumption and are flavours that go well with food. Guess not every oil would be tasty? Like, we don't want to drink Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang soup.
