Local singer Ming Bridges shows off period bloat; followers think she’s pregnant and congratulate her anyway

“Now I know no one clicks through to watch the whole video,” quipped Ming in a later IG story, where she had to clarify again, that she is not pregnant.

With the overwhelming amount of content we see online these days, it pays to start a video in an attention-grabbing way, just so your followers won't scroll past your stuff.

But what if your followers have the attention span of a goldfish? And what if they don’t read the captions?

That’s what happened to local singer Ming Bridges, 30, who started an IG video with the mother of all clickbait sentences, “I’ve got some news".

She was also seen rubbing her belly.

All Ming’s followers had to do was wait five seconds, which was when the singer said she's "not pregnant".

"I’m just a girl [whose] period is due in two days," she explained.

It didn’t help that Ming’s bloated tummy
really looked like a baby bump, and that she was caressing it like a pregnant woman.

Not long after her video was shared, Ming’s comments section was flooded with congratulatory comments from friends and followers who, clearly, did not finish  her video.

The clip, which was posted on Tuesday (April 18), now has over 2K likes and 80 comments, with more than half congratulating her on becoming a mum.

As it turns out, Ming had a very good reason for posting the video of her not-baby bump.

She wanted to bring some attention to period bloating, and send positive vibes to the ladies who feel conscious of their bodies during that time of the month.

“Who else bloats like crazy before their period?" wrote Ming. "You are not alone! There are still days where (sic) bloating makes me feel really body conscious but now I love to pretend I’m pregnant, put on something comfy and make light of it all,” she continued, complete with a laughing-crying emoji.

She added: “We hold more water retention in the build up to our periods caused by fluctuations in our hormones. That plus all the sodium from my McDonald’s meal the day before has [led] to an especially bloated stomach. This doesn’t make us ‘bad’, or gross or undesirable. Our bloated stomachs are nothing special. They are normal. Let’s normalise normal tummies. Our bodies change so much during our cycle, from what we [eat] in a day or the night before, and even depending on how much water we drink… and it’s all temporary!!”

Ming went on to provide some tips to alleviate uncomfortable bloating, naming ideas such as going on walks to improve circulation, drinking lots of water and herbal teas, reducing high sodium foods and doing jumping jacks.

Ming simply wanted to bring some attention to period bloating, but got many congratulatory messages instead

As for the tons of congratulatory messages she received, Ming took to her IG story the next morning (Apr 19) to explain once and for all that she is not with child.

“I’M NOT PREGNANT,” wrote the singer in huge font. “But thank you for all the congrats messages, now I know no one clicks through to watch the whole video,” she quipped, with a few more laughing emojis.

She even took the time to clear up the misunderstanding with some well-intentioned commenters, who welcomed her “to the mummy’s club”.

“Omg is it a boy? Girl? Big Mac? Or pizza? Congrats!” joked VJ Hanli Hoefer, who for one, seemed to have watched the entire vid.

Ming replied to Hanli’s comment, explaining that her bloat was also a result of having McDonald's and brownies the night before.

Moral of the story: Don’t go congratulating people on their pregnancy unless you’ve watched the whole announcement, okay?
