Michelin Guide S’pore Announces Upcoming Eatery Additions In New Monthly Category

This means that new entrants for the upcoming edition of the Guide will be unveiled in monthly batches, instead of the usual yearly round-up.

The Michelin Guide Singapore has launched a ‘New’ monthly category to introduce upcoming additions to the guide. This ranges from fine-dining restaurants to hawker stalls, “regardless of the style of cuisine or the [type of] establishment”.

The entrants will be revealed every third Wednesday of the month via the Michelin Guide’s official website and app, where there will be a “New” symbol placed next to the eatery’s name. The first monthly batch of recommended eateries was announced today (Apr 20).

How this works

How this works

Prior to this, the Michelin Guide announced its entrants on a yearly basis. This includes Star, Bib Gourmand (given to eateries offering value-for-money food) and Green Star winners (awarded to F&B establishments that practise sustainability), as well as makan spots that don’t fall under any of those categories, but are still worth a mention in the guide.

With the ‘New’ category (yes the new category is called New), fresh-to-the-guide entrants will be announced monthly instead. But as for whether they make it to any of the award categories, this will only be revealed in the Guide’s usual annual Star Revelation awards ceremony.

Simply put, the monthly recommended eateries are definitely going into the guide, but not confirmed for a star, Bib Gourmand or any award gong until the yearly unveiling.

As for why the Michelin Guide is switching up its announcement system, its international director Gwendal Poullennec says: “We hope that these regular revelations and updates will provide opportunities to highlight the [F&B] industry, and we invite everyone to discover and support the restaurants around them”.

Which means if you want to check out new Michelin-approved eateries, you can do so year-round.

For the month of April 2022, the new entrants are: Fool, Butcher’s Block, Revolver and Wagyu Jin.

Fool

Fool

Wine bar Fool is conceptualised by chef Rishi Naleendra, the man behind fine-diner Cloudstreet and Sri Lankan restaurant Kotuwa. It takes over the space for chef Rishi’s defunct Cheek Bistro, and serves an extensive selection of wines along with mod small plate snacks like chicken liver éclair.

One of the buzziest new spots in town is mod Indian restaurant Revolver, which offers two two tasting menus and a vegetarian selection of dishes, all from different regions of India. The food is cooked in an open kitchen over a charcoal grill, tandoor oven and brazier (an enclosed metal container used for cooking with charcoal or wood).

56 Tras Street, S078995.

Butcher’s Block
