“Like Mother & Son”: Netizens React To Song Hye Kyo’s Pairing With Actor 14 Years Her Junior In New Drama

South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, 39, is no stranger to being paired up with younger men on screen, having worked with her ex-husband Song Joong Ki, 36, in Descendants of the Sun and with 28-year-old Park Bo Gum in Encounter.

However, some folks seem to have a problem with the fact that she may be working with 26-year-old actor Lee Do Hyun, whose past dramas include Hotel Del Luna and Sweet Home, in her upcoming project The Glory.

1 of 4 Won’t Song Hye Kyo make pretty much any pairing look good, though?

In The Glory, which reunites Hye Kyo with Descendants of the Sun writer Kim Eun Sook, she stars as Dong Eun, an aspiring architect who becomes a teacher to take revenge on those who bullied her out of school, as well as those who just stood by and let it happen.

While Do Hyun has yet to officially join the cast, his agency Yuehua Entertainment confirmed that he has indeed received an offer but is still in the midst of discussions.

The role he is considering is that of Joo Yeo Jung, who has an important part to play in Dong Eun’s revenge plot (and presumably becomes romantically involved with her along the way).

Ironically, Hye Kyo has been subjected to a bit of real-life bullying herself in the form of cruel comments from netizens who are clearly miffed by the 13-year age gap between her and Do Hyun (actually, it will be a 14-year age gap after Hye Kyo turns 40 next month).

These include: “Their age difference is too big”, “Song Hye Kyo is becoming the representative of May-December relationships”, and “It’s like a mother and her son, I can’t stand it”.

Yup, even unquestionably good-looking people are not exempt from age-shaming — remember what happened to Jerry Yan, who was called an “uncle” after appearing in an idol drama with newcomer Shen Yue? (Although to be fair, that age gap — he’s 44 and she’s 24 — is a lot wider.)

Still, there are those who are more positive and are looking forward to seeing what sort of sparks will fly between Hye Kyo and Do Hyun.

4 of 4 Perhaps we should all reserve our judgement for when the drama actually airs
