Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee Closes Bukit Batok Outlet Just 3 Months After Opening

The famous hawker chain apologised for not living “up to the expectations of our fans”.

After just three months in business, Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee’s Bukit Batok outlet quietly closed for good. The Westside branch had opened to long queues in February this year at a newly revamped coffeeshop in Bukit Batok West.

What happened?

Nam Sing announced the stall’s closure on Facebook with a candid apology, which seemed to hint at the outlet’s food not being up to scratch. “We’re sorry that we haven’t managed to live up to the expectations of our fans over at our Bukit Batok outlet since launching three months ago,” the post explained.

The post also implied that it was a lack of manpower that made offering quality Hokkien mee challenging: “Finding and training chefs committed to frying the Hokkien Mee of our standard hasn’t been easy. It is with a heavy heart but heavier sense of commitment to the taste of our Mee that we will officially retired [sic] this outlet and refocus all of our attention to our Ion and Old Airport outlets. Thanks for all the support Bukit Batok! We look forward to seeing you again.”

Two other outlets in operation

Other than the Bukit Batok stall, Nam Sing is still operating its famous original stall at Old Airport Road Food Centre, as well as a mall outlet at Hawkers’ Street, a multi-stall eatery run by Universal Dining, a concept under local food service provider Select Group.
