Nicky Wu & Liu Shishi Threaten Legal Action Over Rumours That Their 7-Year Marriage Is On The Rocks
The couple’s lawyer demanded a retraction and apology after a netizen posted a comic strip with an actor going through divorce after falling for a young female assistant.
Yet another Chinese showbiz couple has been hit with divorce rumours.
Last Friday (Feb 25), a netizen, who goes by the Weibo handle “Zhang Xiaohan, a girl who eats melons” posted a comic strip on social media, alluding that Taiwanese star Nicky Wu and Chinese actress Liu Shishi’s seven-year marriage is on the rocks.
The comics revolve around an “older male star” who used to date his manager. He dumped his manager to marry a female actress and recently fell in love with a young female assistant who resembles his manager.
According to the comics, the male star is in the midst of divorce proceedings and that he will announce the news next month.
Though no names were mentioned, there is a drawing in the comics that is similar to Nicky and Shishi’s wedding photo.

Striking similarities between the drawing and the couple’s wedding pic
After divorce news made headlines, Nicky’s team refuted the rumours and the couple also posted similar statements on Weibo saying things “have always been very good”.
"This life is ours. Initially we didn't want to respond to this, but it has disturbed our lives as well as our family and friends, so please don't spread falsehoods. We have always been very good, thank you for your concern," read the statement.
In addition, Nicky’s lawyer posted a letter on Weibo asking Zhang Xiaohan to delete the defamatory content and to issue an apology to the actor.
“I hope the majority of netizens can distinguish right from wrong and surf the Internet in a civilised manner,” wrote the lawyer.

Nicky means business
One netizen shared that the source of this rumour is “very interesting”.
“The source of the news is reportedly a fan of Liu (Liu Shishi) and that (the netizen) Zhang Xiaohan had put together the comic strip based on information from the fan’s Weibo posts as well as her own circle of fans, and that this wasn’t done in a day or two,” said the netizen.
He added: "These netizens who like to make up gossip, if they have proof, they will put it out there, if they don't, they will make up some nonsense to confuse everyone on purpose."

Netizens are skeptical
While the news shocked many people, there were also netizens who are skeptical about the speculations.
Netizens noted that the couple had recently visited Shishi’s parents during Chinese New Year and that her fans who hate Nicky have been known to spread rumours about the actor for years.
They also slammed Zhang Xiaohan’s post, telling her to “quit the paparazzi industry”.
“Her logic is like this: they all wear tops and pants, so they have the same style. They are wearing white shoes so they are in couple’s wear. The have facial features, so they look alike,” they said.
Nicky and Shishi tied the knot in 2015 after two years of dating.
They have a three-year-old son whose nickname 'Bubu' is derived from the title of the Chinese drama that brought them together, Bu Bu Jing Xin a.k.a. Scarlet Heart.
