Netizens praised the Cantopop star — who looks amazing, by the way — for her attitude towards ageing gracefully.
In a world where everyone tries to do whatever they can to stay youthful (and where age-shaming is unfortunately quite prevalent), Cantopop diva Sally Yeh’s recent post and the reactions towards it were certainly a breath of fresh air.
Last Thursday (Sep 30), which was Sally’s 60th birthday, the Taiwanese-Canadian singer shared a few photos accompanied by a lengthy caption written in both Chinese and English about “strolling into the BIG 6”.
“I’m SO GRATEFUL for making it this far, in GOOD HEALTH, GOOD SPIRITS, GOOD MIND & BODY,” she gushed (yes, she uses a lot of capital letters in her posts). “Today I spend with my LOVING FAMILY & MY FRIENDS. Well.. one loving Family is missing and in Mainland, now resting, but working VERY HARD!”
Sally was, of course, referring to her husband, veteran Hongkong singer George Lam, who has been busy killing it in China with appearances on variety show Singing with Legends as well as the recent Mid-Autumn Festival Concert in the Greater Bay Area 2021.
However, what really struck netizens were Sally’s selfies, in which she’s proudly flaunting a head of grey hair. The lines on her face were also not Meitu-ed away (see below).
“I also would like to share with you my real and Authentic physical & Spiritual SELF!!!” she declared. “I hope you all can accept me as I AM, white hair with my cutey (sic) wrinkles!”
She added that George, who turns 74 on October 12, “really enjoys” her more natural current look as she can now “keep him company” and they can “look like twins”.
BRB, squealing over how utterly adorable this couple is.
Fans were very supportive and heaped praises on the star, gushing over how great she looks and thanking her for her inspirational message.
“You know what? I love [your] white hair! It is beautiful,” wrote one. “We celebrate youth too much, and society has forgotten that there is beauty in ageing gracefully.”
Now this is the kind of uplifting vibe we’d love to see more of from now on.
