It was the Mediacorp actress' goal to own her own place by the time she turns 30. Turns out, she's an overachiever.
The 26-year-old Mediacorp actress can now entertain her friends and family whenever she wants to now that she has bought her first home: a 600 sq ft, two-bedroom condo in the central part of Singapore. [Ed: She declines to reveal how much she paid for it.]
Earlier today (Sep 3), Hong Ling proudly showed off this milestone on Instagram.
“My first home! Just gotten my keys today! It's the best gift I've ever bought for myself,” she wrote. “I bought the first condo in my life with my own effort. When I got my first endorsement upon entering showbiz, my goal was to get my own place by 30 years old. Who knew I would be able to achieve it? I’m really grateful and happy.”
The star, who is now filming Mediacorp drama Mr Flower, revealed that she bought her apartment when Phase Two started in June and only got her keys today.
“I’m gonna start planning and renovation soon!” she said. “I plan to do a simple reno, so I should be [to move in] next month, hopefully!”
Hong Ling also explained that she was drawn to the two-bedder mainly 'cos of its layout and location.
“What attracted me the most is the balcony where I can sit outside and read books. I will be converting one room to a walk-in wardrobe too!” she enthused. “I've always wanted a walk-in wardrobe! I love the neighborhood as well.” The actress used to stay in the northern-part of Singapore, which she said was very “inconvenient” when it came to travelling to work.
Like we mentioned earlier, Hong Ling declined to reveal how much she splashed on the apartment, but she did disclose that “most of the cash came from product endorsements”.
“I’ve always wanted my own house since [I was] young, so I've always worked towards that goal. I don't spend a lot. If I have extra income from my endorsements or advertisements, I always save it!” said the face of Silky Girl cosmetics.
But if you are wondering if her boyfriend, fellow Mediacorp star Nick Teo, whom she has been dating for the past five years, will be moving in too, Hong Ling insisted to us that her home will be her “own bachelorette pad”. She also said that she and Nick have “no plans to stay together before marriage”. Her reason? She wants her personal space while she's still single.
If we are married, we will be staying together for the rest of our lives! Haha! she said.
Nick, 30, has since confessed to feeling “ashamed” of himself as he doesn't own his own place yet.
“This little girl (always a little girl to me) just bought her own house at the age of 26!” he wrote on IG an hour after Hong Ling’s post. “Despite being so young, she is really mature, disciplined and driven in her goal — buying a place of her own. She aimed to have her own place at the age of 30, yet she did it when she was 26. And this makes me very ashamed of myself. I always have big dreams and goals but it's always too hard for me to achieve, doubting about myself, complaining about how unfair it is to me, blah blah blah .” Bro, we totally get you.
Nonetheless, he said that Hong Ling’s achievement was a “very good wake up call”.
“She inspires me greatly and even some of my friends who knew about this. She had her eyes on her goal and believed she could, so she did, all by herself. I am super proud of her!” Nick said.
So when is it your turn to get a house, Nick?
