In case you haven’t heard, actress and Le Cordon Bleu graduate Jeanette Aw recently opened her own patisserie called Once Upon A Time, and the biz is already so popular that the website crashed just minutes after it officially launched on May 25.

Although the online shop is now back up, it states that orders are closed for the month of June, which means that you probably have to wait until July at least to get your hands on one of her bakes.

Jeanette, 41, is no stranger to overwhelming orders, having dealt with a “900 to 1,000” pax wait list for her WTF (What The Fudge) Brownies last year.

One person who was lucky enough to get her hands on boxes of all three pastries — yes, there are only three types available as Jeanette bakes everything herself — was Patricia Mok, who live streamed herself trying the cakes after making a trip to the store to pick them up and congratulate her friend.

The pair met on the set of 2003’s Holland V, where they played sisters. Jeanette still calls Pat Er Jie (second sister) to this day.

The first item Pat tried was the Blueberry Burst, a four-inch round blueberry and lemon pound cake that retails for $10, followed by $26 for a box of 10 plain Financiers and $32 for a box of 10 Pineapple Financiers.

“Some people might think it’s expensive but hello? These are baked by Jeanette herself. She doesn’t get someone else to do it for her. She was up until 4am making these!” said the 49-year-old.

Her verdict on all three bakes was generally the same: Not too sweet, not too buttery, and just really delicious and addictive, judging from the number of times she kept going “Mmm!” in delight and how she kept taking bites even though she initially said she didn’t want to eat too much.

“I’m not really a big fan of sweets and desserts — I only like alcohol and food — but I will pay for good pastries,” Pat declared. And yes, she proudly stated that Jeanette’s bakes were “worth [her] money”.

Towards the end of the video, Pat recalled the conversation she had with Jeanette when she was at the shop earlier that day, complete with a hilarious and absolutely spot-on impersonation of the latter.

“When I saw her, I said, ‘Eh look, your Er Jie bought so many leh!’” said Pat, before switching from her low voice to a very high-pitched and girlish tone to imitate Jeanette’s response, which was, “Oh, thank you, Er Jie, thank you for your support!”

“You know lah, she talks like that one,” Pat added. You can check out her impression from around the 20:43 mark in the post below:
