Pierre Png Once Saw A Platoon Mate Get Possessed In Front Of His Eyes
The actor also carries holy water with him whenever he travels.
Every guy who has done his National Service has a ghost story to tell. Some hear about supernatural encounters from their army mates , while others, like Pierre Png, have first-hand experiences.
“When I was in the army, one of my platoon mates got possessed right before my very eyes. We went out for an exercise and when we came back at night, he just wasn’t behaving like himself,” Pierre tells 8days.sg when we caught up with the actor during the imaging session of his upcoming Ch 8 drama, A World Of Difference.
“We had to carry him out because he didn’t want to come out of the tent. He was a skinny guy, but it took four of us to lift him up that night. He had his eyes closed, was rocking back and forth and was mumbling in some language we couldn't understand. My officer grabbed him and sternly said, “Hey, stop talking to this person. Don’t entertain him anymore. God will save you”. The moment he said that, my friend opened his eyes, stared at the officer and started laughing. I was freaked out. They immediately got him [out of the training area],” the 45-year-old recounts.
“Months later, we had another exercise and I was the last to sleep. I was removing my camouflage face paint in the toilet and when I looked up, that same platoon mate was there looking at me. His head was tilted, just like in the movies! I asked if he was okay and also about what had happened since that incident. He replied that he woke up and found himself at the IMH (Institute of Mental Health). He told me that the doctor said that he was just tired, which resulted in the body twitches. I told him about what happened that night and insisted that he was definitely not twitching and that he was speaking in tongues instead. Anyway, he said that he had been taken out of course and was there to pick up his things. I was relieved, man. But when I was speaking to him, he seemed like he was in a daze. I couldn't possibly ask if he was still possessed! Luckily, I never saw him again!”
But that was not the only time the self-professed “believer” had an encounter with the supernatural. The Crazy Rich Asian star tells us that he has a “ritual” whenever he checks into a hotel. And for good reason.
“I make the sign of the cross whenever I enter hotel rooms. I also have holy water with me whenever I travel. It gives me a sense of peace, especially 'cos I've had some 'experiences' in hotels,” he says.
“When I was filming in Thailand and was staying in a hotel, I was pressed down on the bed [by a spirit] and it 'molested' me. It squeezed my calf, all the way up to my groin. The next moment, I felt like I was being vacuum-packed into my blanket. I couldn’t move or speak. I mustered all my strength and prayed. It felt so real.”
