Poor Jerry Yan. With the Taiwanese media all hyped up about his ex-girlfriend Lin Chiling’s wedding to Japanese pop star Akira this Sunday (Nov 17), some of the attention has turned to what the actor is up to these days.

1 of 4 Jerry and Shen Yue in Count Your Lucky Stars

The 42-year-old F4 heartthrob will soon be seen in new Chinese idol drama Count Your Lucky Stars where he romances Chinese actress Shen Yue who is a good 20 years younger than he is. Coincidentally, Shen Yue played Shan Cai in the 2018 version of Meteor Garden. Jerry, in case you’ve been living under a rock, shot to fame playing Dao Ming Si in the 2001 version, where his character romanced the character Shan Cai, then played by Barbie Hsu.

The trailer for Count Your Lucky Stars, which revolves around Jerry who plays a bossy fashion editor who becomes besieged with bad luck after kissing Shen Yue’s unlucky fashion designer, has been met with mixed reactions from netizens, some of whom have called the pairing a “father-daughter romance”.

But there are also supporters of Jerry, who believe that the actor “looks more compatible with younger girls”. Um, creepy much?

But the worst criticism though comes from those who think Jerry has been stuck doing the same thing for the past two decades, while those around him have long moved on. Namely his ex-girlfriend. “Lin Chiling is already getting married but 42-year-old Jerry Yan is still acting in idol dramas,” commented one salty hater. Ouch.
