Remember these ‘90s Hongkong TV goddesses? Actresses Ada Choi, Athena Chu, Catherine Hung, and Monica Chan have come together to form a group and they have been attracting quite a bit of attention for their ageless beauty.

Known for their trademark Cantonese-accented Mandarin, which has resulted in quite a few laughs over the years, they have self-deprecatingly christened themselves “Gang Pu F4”, which can be translated as 'Cantonese-accented Mandarin F4'.

The name is also apt as the erstwhile actresses hope to “bring joy and positive energy to others” through their brand of Mandarin.

In fact, they feel the name can boost their popularity too. “When you mention ‘Gang Pu’, you will think of the four of us. And when Ada goes on shoots and variety shows, and tells people about ‘Gang Pu’, they will think of the rest of us,” said Athena, 48, who is married to Beyond band member Paul Wong and has a nine-year-old daughter, Debbie.

While it is not known what projects the quartet has lined up, they seem pretty serious about their collaboration and recently got together to shoot some publicity photos.

The snaps, which Ada shared on Weibo yesterday (Jul 21), caused quite a stir as netizens — us included — couldn’t help but wow at their age-defying looks.

Timeless beauties indeed, commented one netizen, while another marvelled: The four of them are just too beautiful.

In case you’re wondering, these ladies are between the ages of 46 and 53 — and we can only hope we look half as good in our 40s.

It is hard to believe but this is the first time the quartet, who have been BFFs for more than 20 years, are working together.

We’ve performed on stage together and some of us have worked together before, but as a group, this is a first,” said Catherine, 49, during the photoshoot, with 46-year-old Ada, who is undoubtedly the joker of the group, interjecting: “Yes, the three of them are very happy to be working with me. It is their blessing.”

Ribbing aside, the foursome also couldn’t help but dish the dirt on one another, even exposing their nicknames for each other.

Athena, who is best known to Singaporean audiences for her role as a getai singer in the 1995 telemovie Cupid Love, revealed: “We don’t usually call ourselves F4, instead we call each other sei bat po (or 'bitch' in Cantonese)”, to which Catherine chimed in: “Yes, that is Ada’s catchphrase. She calls everyone 'bitch'. Sometimes we don’t know which one of us she’s referring to.”

Apart from Ada, who is married to Chinese actor Max Zhang and recently appeared in Chinese variety show, Incredible Mums 2, the rest of the actresses have kept relatively low profiles in recent years.

Former Miss Hongkong Monica Chan, who left showbiz in 2005, was last seen in 2017 drama Ben Hur, while Athena made her comeback in 2016 after a five-year hiatus.

Last year, Catherine was embroiled in divorce rumours after her husband, Chinese actor Andy Zhang, who is 11 years her junior, was alleged to be in an affair with his manager. The couple has a six-year-old daughter together and Catherine has a 19-year-old son with former Hongkong idol Max Mok.
