Andy Lau Once Lost His Cool At Rene Liu When She Asked If He Did Anything For Fun Other Than Work

Workaholic not anonymous.

Taiwanese singer-actress Rene Liu has worked with some of the biggest stars in Asia so it’s not surprising that she has interesting anecdotes to share about her famous colleagues.

The 50 year-old recently went on a radio show with two music industry pals, producer Chen Chien-Chi and lyricist David Ke, to talk about how tough it is to create an album.

Rene said that Chien-Chi is a really busy man, who often juggles producing an album with doing a theatre show. But no matter how tired he is, he enjoys it as his passion is music.

Rene then said that it reminds her of one particular interaction with Andy Lau.

She had worked with the Heavenly King on the 2004 movie A World Without Thieves and she noticed that after filming wrapped for the day, he would go straight into the recording studio to work on his album.

After he was done with that, he would go for meetings before heading home to rest. A few hours of sleep later, he would be back on set.

After many days of observing Andy’s backbreaking schedule, Rene couldn’t control herself any longer and decided to ask him this question: “Don’t you do anything for fun?”

What she didn’t expect was for Andy to flare up at her, though she said he did it in a jokey-angry manner, which was still very out of character for him.

“I hate it most when people ask me that question,” Andy huffed at Rene.

He later explained to her that working is his version of fun and that one shouldn’t think that only playing golf or going for picnics can be considered as recreation. Those activities could actually be agonising to him as his greatest joy is in his work that he found. “I’m the happiest when I am working!” he added.

Spoken like a true workaholic.
