There has been an outpouring of tributes to late Taiwanese celeb dancer Serena Liu Zhen in the days following her passing. Widely known as Taiwan’s queen of ballroom dancing, Serena was a frequent face on variety shows where she literally danced her way to stardom.

However, one performance that contributed to her popularity was her 2004 dance routine with Heavenly King Andy Lau, on the mega popular Variety Big Brother.

After hearing about Serena’s passing, Andy paid tribute to the late 44-year-old in a statement.

“[I feel] very sorry, and regretful. I hope [Serena’s singer husband] Shin Lung will take good care of himself, their daughter and family,” he said.

As a fan of Andy herself, Serena was said to have been exceptionally nervous before their performance in 2004 and even took the time to research what type of ballroom dance Andy was more familiar with.

Luckily, the performance was a resounding success, and Serena soon became a popular figure on similar shows. The dancer was also full of praise for Andy, sharing that the singer was super-friendly and gentlemanly. When she accidentally got some lipstick on Andy’s shirt during rehearsal, the Heavenly King simply waved off her apologies, and reassured her that it was alright.

Serena also once mentioned that Andy was the only celebrity who held out his hand to guide her off-stage after their performance. It's said that Serena had kept the photo she took with Andy in her phone all through the years to remind her of the moment.

May she rest in peace.
