These days, it’s almost de rigueur for celebs — or their kids — to have really creative, special, and/or over-the-top birthday cakes, but for Ariel Lin, she was happy to have something simple when she turned 38 last Thursday (Oct 29).

Sharing photos from her celebration on her socials, the Taiwanese actress wrote, “Thank you all for your blessings! May those who love me and those I love stay safe, healthy, and enjoy a happy life!”

Not so happy, however, were some netizens with opinions on her cake, which, to be fair, does look like something you could’ve gotten from the neighbourhood bakery in the ‘90s.

But was Ariel bothered by the ‘age-shaming’ remarks against her birthday cake? Nope, not at all. In fact, she cheerily responded to her — or should we say, her cake’s — naysayers.

When someone sniped, “Isn’t the style of this cake a little dated?”, she replied, “I love retro styles!” She also proudly declared “Old-fashioned is king!” to another comment that said, “This cake is so old-fashioned”.

Then, when a fan said that it was also their birthday, Ariel continued the ‘joke’ by roasting her own cake and writing, “Happy birthday! Let me give you my retro cake! (Laughing emoji)”

Ariel herself, on the other hand, was praised for her youthful beauty, but it looks like she wouldn’t really care if she were the one being age-shamed instead of her cake. When someone wrote, “You haven’t aged a bit”, she quipped, “It doesn’t matter even if I’ve aged!”

Gotta love her attitude.
