Hongkong actress Athena Chu recently attended Paris Fashion Week where she wowed the international peacocking crowd with her stylish dressing. It’s her third time attending the fashion shows in Paris but it was all still very exciting for the 47-year-old. “I feel that the most fun part about attending fashion week is that you get to try on clothes you won’t normally wear,” said Athena, who Singaporean audiences know best for her getai singer role opposite Chen Hanwei in the 1995 telemovie Cupid Love.

She has also been indulging in some serious retail therapy. “I think this is the most money I’ve spent on shopping, I bought five pairs of shoes, and also clothes and leather bags!” she said. But I didn’t forget my husband and kid, and I dedicated my last day in Paris to shopping for them!”

The actress married Beyond band member Paul Wong in 2012 and they have a seven-year-old daughter, Debbie, who was born the same year. While most women have husbands who remain indifferent about fashion, not Athena. Turns out, Paul is her fashion consultant. “I often chat with my husband about fashion and I love to ask him for his opinion. When he says I look fat in something, I won’t buy the outfit. When he says I look pretty, I will definitely buy it,” she said in an interview.

We may not know this but the rocker happens to be quite the hypebeast, and according to Athena, has the, um, credentials to back it up. “After all, he once won a Top 10 Most Fashionable People award, and he’s also someone who is very particular about aesthetics so I trust his taste. This is an exchange between two people about fashion, and at the same time, it’s something that can spice up a husband and wife’s relationship,” she laughed.
