Macau casino king Stanley Ho has finally been laid to rest, over a year after he passed away at the age of 98 on May 26, 2020.

After a star-studded funeral for the late billionaire was held on July 10 last year, his body was temporarily kept in the Hong Kong Funeral Home before being moved to Tung Wah Coffin Home while his family waited for a fengshui master to choose an auspicious date for his burial.

That date turned out to be yesterday (May 30). At around 9am, Hongkong media spotted staff members in white waiting outside Tung Wah Coffin Home and Chiu Yuen Cemetery, Stanley’s final resting place.

About an hour later, his four sons Lawrence, Orlando, Arnaldo, and Mario arrived at the coffin home to prepare to escort the coffin to the burial site, while his daughters and three living wives met up at the cemetery to oversee the arrangements there.

At 10.30am, Stanley’s casket was moved out of the coffin home by 10 men and carried over 200m of mountain road before being loaded onto a hearse to be brought to the cemetery.

Stanley’s sons followed closely behind as Lawrence, the eldest, held a framed photograph of the tycoon. The procession was said to be escorted by a hundred security personnel.

There were so many bodyguards that two vehicles were needed to travel to the cemetery, and police officers were also deployed to control traffic.

There was a light drizzle when they arrived at the cemetery, and Stanley was buried next to his parents. His firstborn daughter Jane, who passed away in 2014 from a rare blood vessel disease, is also buried nearby.

According to reports, Stanley was laid to rest in an elaborate Chinese-style coffin which is made of golden-thread nanmu, a precious type of wood, and allegedly costs HK$8mil (S$1.4mil). His family spared no expense when it came to his burial plot too, which is estimated to be worth HK$1mil (S$170,000).

After the burial, journos reached out to Stanley’s daughter Daisy (his second child with his second wife Lucina Laam), who said: “Thank you for your concern! Everything went smoothly today.”
