Casino King Stanley Ho’s Daughter Reportedly Received Over S$100mil In Dowry
Say yes to the dress, villa, jewellery and abalone.
Casino King Stanley Ho’s daughter, Sabrina Ho, 28, is getting married, and her engagement ceremony was more extravagant than Nick Young’s wedding scene in Crazy Rich Asians.
As the heiress, who is one of Stanley's 17(!) kids, is pregnant (she's having a girl!) and is reportedly due soon, she and her soon-to-be-hubby 21-year-old Harvard student Thomas Xin Qilong plan to tie the knot next year in a grand castle-themed wedding in Portugal. But they decided to have a traditional Chinese engagement ceremony first.
It's no secret that the Hos are one of the wealthiest families in Asia but as it turns out, Thomas is from a family that's not too shabby themselves. And nothing could prepare us for how extra... luxe this ceremony turned out to be.
On Jun 7, Sabrina’s younger brother, Mario Ho, took to his Weibo to share pictures of his sister’s celebration. The siblings are the kids of Angela Leong, who is the fourth wife of Stanley.
“[Sabrina’s] getting married! I can’t help but feel happy for her. After mum’s had her tea, you’ll be Mrs Xin… Be respectful and filial to your parents-in-law. Remember to come back and visit us! Stay healthy and have lots of children! Wishing you guys happiness,” he wrote.
But what got people talking wasn't Mario’s sweet message to his older sister. Instead, it was the amount of dowry Thomas offered to the Ho family that had everyone picking their jaws from the floor. Just take a look at these pictures:
Turns out, Thomas’s family is so crazy rich, the gifts they brought reportedly added up to a whopping NT2.4bil (S$100mil). Yes. One. Hundred. Million. Dollars.
A sea of riches. We’ve never felt so poor just looking at a single picture.
According to Apple Daily, the dowry includes a villa worth S$86 million and ridiculous amounts of jewellery and delicacies. We’re guessing that the Ho family is now scratching their heads over what to do with all that gold (not like they need it anyway).
It was also reported that Thomas prepared two huge barrels of big red robe tea leaves — the world’s most expensive tea — to show his unwavering loyalty towards his spouse. Guys, take note.
A Hongkong writer who was invited to witness the ceremony was so taken aback by the lavishness that he wrote, Sabrina celebrated her engagement today, and it’s like when crazy rich Chinese meets China’s rich traditions! The amount of jewellery is dazzling. The bride also had her brother fanning her. How heartwarming!”
'Heartwarming' is one way to put it.
