Chinese Pop Idol Huang Zitao Slammed For Flaunting Wealth On Social Media After Dad's Death
The former EXO member is set to inherit his late dad’s S$4bil fortune.
It is not uncommon to see the rich and famous showing off their expensive toys online. Hongkong actor Shawn Yue occasionally shares photos of his luxury timepieces, while his pals Jay Chou, Jimmy Lin and JJ Lin are known to have a penchant for fast cars.
However, recently, Chinese pop star Huang Zitao has drawn brickbats from netizens for blatantly flaunting his wealth on social media. In the past month, the former EXO member has been filling his Instagram with pics of his high-SES lifestyle. And netizens have had enough.
It is no secret that the real-life crazy rich Asian leads a very privileged life. His late father, Huang Zhongdong, was one of Qingdao’s richest men, and Zitao is set to inherit his whopping 20 billion yuan (S$4bil) fortune after the former passed away last month.
After Zhongdong’s passing, Zitao took a break from work and laid low online.
However, since he returned to work in October, the 27-year-old has been spamming his IG with snaps of his luxury cars, watches, artworks and even his private jet.
Some netizens have called his behaviour “low-class” and ostentatious , while others felt it was inappropriate, given that his dad had just passed away. They also urged him to be “a bit more low profile”.
“Didn't his dad just die? Is this really good?” asked one netizen, while another said: “Do wealthy people still flaunt their wealth like this?
Zitao was really close to his father. In 2018, Zhongdong started L. TAO Entertainment after the singer left Korean entertainment label SM Entertainment and EXO, so that he can develop his career in China.
Last week, Zitao revealed in a live stream his last words with his dad. He said he promised his father that no matter what happens, he would live his life happily and he hopes fans and netizens will gain some positivity from this.
