What is age these days? You have Joan Chen who is 58-going-on-45 and 64-year-old Lin Ching Hsia who is still a revered beauty. Well, to be fair, 59-year-old Taiwanese singer Chyi Chin does not look as youthful as those two stars but he was never known for his looks anyway… although many women who grew up listening to him in the ’80s would beg to differ. But there’s something about the singer who just positively reeks of youthfulness.

Back in the '90s, Chyi Chin was known not just for his soulful, octave-soaring vocals but his wild and curly shoulder-length locks.

He was recently spotted at the airport dressed in a T-shirt and floral bermudas and although he’s no longer as trim as he was when he was active in showbiz, he still had the Taiwanese press raving about how he “exuded the smell of youth”. (Their words, not ours). They also said that his tanned skin made him look younger and nothing like a man who’s turning 60 next year.

There were also some netizens who noticed how the skin on Chyi Chin’s face is of a different shade from the rest of his body. And there’s a reason for that. Back in 2011, the singer suffered serious burns on his torso after a fire cupping (or ‘ba guan’ in Chinese) therapy session at his home went awry. According to reports, the therapist had accidentally spilled alcohol on Chyi Chin’s back during the session, which caused a fire. And the singer suffered second-degree burns as a result and took three months to recover from his injuries. Yikes.

Chyi Chin shot to fame in 1985 when he released his album Wolf. He’s also famed for his songs like ‘Almost In Winter’ and ‘Winter Rain’. He was also in the news for his on-and-off 16-year romance with ’80s screen beauty Joey Wong.

In 2010, Chyi Chin married Chinese singer Sun Li Ya who is 24 years his junior and the following year, he became a dad when Li Ya gave birth to their baby girl.
