Edmond Leung Ended Up Gaining Weight After Trying Andy Lau’s 'Meat Diet' For 10 Days... But It's All Good
He previously lost 2.5kg in a week following Sammi Cheng’s soup diet.
Hongkong singer Edmond Leung has been really trying to lose weight for his year-end concert. In mid-May, he uploaded a vlog on YouTube documenting his experience following fellow Hongkong singer Sammi Cheung’s “shrinking soup” diet plan, which claimed could help get rid of water retention.
After trying the diet out for seven days, Edmond reported back with positive results — he had lost 2.5kg, going from 155lbs (70.3kg) to 149.4lbs (67.8kg).
Buoyed by his results, the 48-year-old set out to try another celebrity diet. This time, he took on Heavenly King Andy Lau’s pre-concert diet plan, the “meat diet”, as introduced to him by Andy’s former assistant, Joe.
According to Joe, the diet requires Edmond to “eat meat for the first four days of the 10-day diet”.
“All types of meat are fine, but porridge, flour, rice, vegetables and fruits are forbidden,” Joe said. For the next six days, the dieter can start to introduce vegetables into their meals, but they should not consume any fruits at all.
To pump up the star power, Edmond consulted two other celebs for their favourite healthy meat dishes. First up was Hongkong singer-actor Nicholas Tse, or Chef Nic, who introduced a dish where he mixed kimchi with shredded chicken.
“What we’re most afraid of when dieting, is oil and salt, and what ingredient is full-flavoured and yet low in salt and oil? It’s kimchi!” Nicholas said, adding that as it is a fermented vegetable, it’s low in calories as well.
Edmond also borrowed Hongkong singer Joey Yung's sous vide machine, with the pop diva sharing over the phone how she cooks chicken breast using the gadget.
“After adjusting the water temperature to around 50 to 60 degrees, place the sealed chicken breast into the water. It’ll be cooked after one hour, but it wouldn’t be too tough,” she shared.
With so much celebrity input and advice, Edmond looked set for yet another successful attempt at losing weight. However, when he checked in with a personal trainer 10 days later, he found that he had actually gained 0.5 kilos.
The trainer then explained that the diet was actually a success. You see, while Edmond’s weight had increased, his body’s fat percentage had actually dropped by 0.3%. It turned out that the extra half kilogram was actually the weight of the muscles he had developed in this period, which basically made Edmond's day.
