Gillian Chung’s 'Friends' Claim A Non-Existent Sex Life Led To Her Divorce, But Michael Lai’s 'Friends' Say It's 'Cos She Didn't Get Pregnant

He says, she says?

Gillian Chung and Michael Lai went public with their divorce on May 8, with the Taiwanese-American doctor confirming that he and the singer signed the divorce papers on March 1. Since then, Gillian has confirmed the split, adding that she will not be commenting further on the matter.

Their divorce took the Internet by surprise as the pair were married for less than two years, and they often talked lovingly about each other in public. Shortly after their split made headlines, Michael posted a long message on Instagram where he revealed that Gillian had told him that she didn't love him enough and that she felt that marriage is not for her. He also added that he would no longer talk about the divorce.

Now that Gillian and Michael have decided to keep mum, alternative sources have popped up claiming that they know the sordid details behind the shocking split.

1 of 2 He said, she said

Sources claiming to be close to Gillian allege that Michael had a bad habit of hanging out with hot female influencers, which infuriated Gillian to no end. They added that his immaturity and lack of ambition had driven a wedge between them and that Gillian did not like Michael talking about his marriage to people as she saw it as an invasion of her privacy.

The final straw, at least according to her 'friends', was that the former couple had a non-existent sex life. Her friends claimed that Gillian has always wanted to have kids, and even went as far as to freeze her eggs. However, the couple was unable to conceive 'cos they weren't having sex.

On the other hand, another source, this time claiming to be close to Michael, claimed that the marriage broke down because they were unable to have a baby. It's said that their plans for fertility treatments were disrupted because of the COVID-19 outbreak and Gillian ultimately couldn't get pregnant.

His 'friends' also added that Gillian’s attitude was also a problem and that the couple once had a huge argument while they were in the US as Michael felt that Gillian did whatever pleased her without considering his feelings. According to his 'friends', Michael had asked Gillian to stay in Taiwan to be with his parents during the Chinese New Year period, but she refused, saying that she would rather go on holiday instead.

Furthermore, Michael was unhappy with the way Gillian was splurging on unnecessary things, like Douyin donations to live streamers. The friend also claimed that the star had no interest in helping Michael with his aesthetic clinic when cash flow was tight after the COVID-19 outbreak caused his business to drop.

Neither Gillian nor Michael have commented on these reports at press time.
