A classic case of an accidental click… or that’s what his company wants us to think, anyway.

Taiwanese singer Annie Yi recently found herself an unwitting contender for Most Hated Celeb On The Internet when she made some rather disrespectful remarks about late Cantopop diva Anita Mui on a talk show.

Then, to make matters worse, she was also accused of encouraging her fans to hate on the other contestants of Sisters Who Make Waves, the reality talent show she’s currently taking part in. Although she later apologised and tried to explain herself, many netizens weren’t buying it and continued to criticise her.

Not everyone has turned their back on her, though: one avid fan took to Weibo to pen this post in defense of the 52-year-old.“I think Annie Yi is great and has high EQ. She treats her husband, children, and in-laws very well. Why must you all vilify her, you bad people? Live as your true self. I support Annie Yi!”

However, that wasn’t what got the rest of the internet talking. Other sharp-eyed users noticed that Annie’s ex-husband, Taiwanese singer Harlem Yu, had ‘liked’ the post with his own official account, and they saw that as his way of showing support.

This simple gesture drew a flurry of praise from netizens, who wrote comments like, “Harlem Yu is a good man, he never said anything about her in public after their divorce”, “Harlem is so kind-hearted, generous, and forgiving”, and “Harlem is a good person, Annie has never once said anything bad about him and even complimented him after they split”.

Alas, it all turned out to be a misunderstanding and a classic case of accidental ‘liking’, or at least, that’s what a rep from Harlem’s side claims.

According to his management company, an editor from his work studio went on a ‘like’ spree on all Harlem-related news that morning and clicked the thumbs-up button on that post by mistake — which is really weird ‘cos we’re pretty sure the “husband” that’s mentioned is Chinese actor Qin Hao, whom Annie married in 2015, not Harlem, whom she divorced in 2009.

In any case, the agency clarified that the former couple have their own lives and Harlem will no longer be responding to anything regarding his ex-wife.
