Hawick Lau Has Pretty Much Become A Stay-At-Home Dad Since His Divorce From Yang Mi
So says his dad.
Hawick Lau and Yang Mi’s divorce back in December 2018 came as no surprise as rumours that the couple was headed for Splitsville had circulated for years before their actual breakup. Both Hawick and Yang Mi would ignore the negative press about them, only drawing the line when their daughter, who's nicknamed Little Glutinous Rice, was dragged into the news. One rumour that really infuriated Yang Mi was when netizens branded her a bad mother, claiming that she prioritises her career over her child.
This week, she has had to deal with another round of similar accusations after Hawick’s father, veteran Hongkong actor Lau Dan, revealed that Little Glutinous Rice is now living with him and that Hawick has decided to cut down on his workload so as to spend more time with his daughter.
And like clockwork, netizens started to berate Yang Mi online. “As a man, he’s willing to put aside his ego in order to raise his daughter well. What kind of mother is she that she can’t even spend time with her daughter?” wrote one netizen.
It doesn't help that the 33-year-old actress is now making headlines for reportedly dating 30-year-old Chinese actor Wei Daxun. Their high-profile 'dates' have led self-righteous netizens to accuse Yang Mi for not having her priorities right.
Lau Dan, however, has no beef with his former daughter-in-law as he shared during an interview during the recent TVB Anniversary Awards that he still regards her as family. “She is still the mother of my granddaughter, and blood ties are unbreakable,” he declared. “She and Hawick had an amicable breakup and there is no bad blood between them.”
Lau Dan admitted that going back home is something he looks forward to every day because he gets to see his granddaughter, and that his son is enjoying life as a stay-at-home dad because he gets to watch Little Glutinous Rice grow up.
