Times are tough with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and like many in showbiz, Hongkong comedian Eric Kot’s finances have been hit badly.
Things are so bad that the 54-year-old and his family have reportedly moved out of their mansion and are staying at a hotel for the time being.
Eric, along with his wife and son, were recently photographed moving out of their Repulse Bay mansion, which they had been renting for HK$130,000 (S$22,400) a month.
When asked about his financial woes, Eric said: The whole world is facing economic problems, so how is our problem a problem?
The optimistic actor added that the difficulties will pass and encouraged everyone to care more for those in need around them.
Things have not been smooth for Eric. Not only is there a lack of acting gigs, his horror film Sugar Street Studio, which was supposed to be released during Chinese New Year this year, was also postponed as theatres were closed as part of COVID-19 prevention measures.
Business for his streetwear label has also taken a hit. But despite his financial struggles, he is adamant about not laying off employees and hopes to tide through the difficult period together.
Eric started his showbiz career in 1988 as one-half of rap duo Softhard along with good friend Jan Lamb, who is the brother of actor Jerry Lamb.
He later went into acting and found success as a comedian. He has been nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor twice at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
