Yesterday (Dec 12), Pakho, 34, posted this long angry rant on Weibo where he described what had happened. “This photo is taken off a hotel’s computer screen, and on it shows my official documents and a photo that was taken when I checked in. How did I get this photo? I got it off the Internet, and after censoring [parts of it], decided to write this post. It started because I was holding a concert in Jiangmen and had to check in to a hotel. A staff then took a photo of my details that was on the computer screen and proceeded to share the photo with his group of friends, which led to my all my personal information getting spread online.

He continued: “In this day and age, everyone likes taking photos and everyone likes to share what they see and hear. But really, there are things you cannot share and take photos of ’cos it concerns another person’s privacy. This matter has led me to think about all the things that can happen, and how it can affect another person’s safety and privacy. I work in front of the camera, and if I am asked to take a photo in public, I will never say no if the situation allows me to. But my personal particulars and my check-in details are private information, so forgive me for not wanting to share it. You have the right to share your knowledge, your likes but not someone else’s private information.”He then ended his message with a stern warning: “Please respect [others]. Please face up to what you have done!”

On the same day, reporters met up with Pakho at a radio station, where he was promoting his new album, and the topic of course veered to this unfortunate invasion of privacy. And this time, the singer offered more details. “A few hours after checking-in [to the hotel], I was rehearsing for my concert when I received a message from my manager saying that the details of my Mainland Travel Permit and photo had been forwarded many times on WeChat,” he said. “When you take a photo of my documents, it means to say that there is always a chance of you coming into my room when I’m not around to look through my belongings or see what colour my underwear is.”

When he was asked if he had received an apology from the hotel, he said, “When I got back to the hotel, all the staff immediately rushed to my room to apologise. Luckily I was dressed. They bowed and apologised and asked me to forgive them. And I accepted it. What else could I do?” Pakho then stressed that he didn’t want the one who leaked his info to be fired, but he hopes that the person understands the importance of respecting another person’s privacy. “I’m not the only one who stays at that hotel. There’s also a chance Jacky Cheung will be staying there during this concert [in Jiangmen]. And I don’t wish for Big Brother Jacky’s Mainland Travel Permit to get exposed for all to see.”
