The daughter of Hongkong comedy icon Richard Ng was arrested in a drug bust yesterday (Mar 23). The 54-year-old is suspected of growing marijuana plants in her village house in Sai Kung.

Customs officers reportedly seized 13 marijuana plants during a raid on the three-storey house, as well as chocolate bars that are suspected to have been infused with cannabis.

According to a law enforcement officer, the chocolate and marijuana are believed to be sold at parties in the area.

The source said the haul had an estimated street value of more than HK$1mil (S$173,000).

According to the South China Morning Post, a package from Canada containing 70 grams of cannabis buds was intercepted by airport customs officers on Monday. The woman was detained when she received the parcel at home during an undercover operation.

Apart from the plants, officers also found marijuana leaves and growing equipment such as solar lights and dehumidifiers.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in a dangerous drug, an offence that carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

According to a neighbour, Richard's daughter has been living alone in the village home for 10 years and isn’t friendly with the neighbours.

Richard, 81, and his British wife Susan have three daughters, Alex, Zoe and Louise, and a son Carl, who is an actor. The couple lives with two of their daughters in a third floor unit of another village house nearby.

Richard, who is suffering from kidney failure, and Carl are no strangers to Singapore, having starred in English sitcom Brothers 4 and Point of Entry series respectively.
