Remember when netizens compared Taiwanese singer Jay Chou to Hongkong actor Hawick Lau and Chinese actress Yang Mi’s daughter, Noemi, ‘cos the six-year-old “resembled” Jay?

Well it looks like Jay has more than one celebrity doppelganger.

According to the Hongkong media, a netizen recently unearthed an interview Hongkong director Derek Yee had given many years back, where he remarked that he’d “once suspected that Jay was the illegitimate son of [my older half-brother, '70s martial arts superstar] David Chiang”.

1 of 3 Is this what Jay'll look like when he's older?

Yup, you read that right.

Apparently, Derek was super convinced that Jay was David’s son after crossing paths with the singer for the very first time as Jay was the spitting image of David in his youth.

Derek even went so far as to look up Jay’s birth month (the Taiwanese singer was born in January 1979), to compare dates.

His “research” ended up yielding surprisingly “convincing” results, with the 62-year-old sharing: “In the ten months before Jay’s birth, my brother was in Taiwan.”

And as David is 32 years older than Jay, who turned 41 this year, some netizens were pretty convinced by Derek’s words.

But of course, the director was just joking… right?

In any case, both Jay and David have acknowledged their resemblance, with Jay even inviting David to act as his older self in his 2013 movie, The Rooftop.

According to Jay, when he travelled to Hongkong for work, a number of Hongkong celebs, including Hongkong director Andrew Lau, had remarked on their similarity.

When Shin Min Daily News contacted David, the 73-year-old had an unexpectedly witty response to the reports.

“[My] illegitimate son? If that’s true, it’d be great! I could’ve retired a long time ago!” he wrote, even sending a reaction image with the words “crying tears of joy” emblazoned on it in Chinese.
