Ever since he joined Instagram two years ago, Jay Chou has been making up for lost time. He updates his account with the frequency of a social media influencer and often interacts with his delighted fans. No surprises then that the singer has managed to amass a whopping 4.4mil followers in such a short amount of time. Well, that and the fact that he is freaking Jay Chou.

What’s great about Jay’s IG is that he shares a lot about his personal life. He posts regularly about his kids and even flirts openly with his wife Hannah Quinlivan. Most recently, he uploaded photos he took with his mum when he was a kid.

“My hair was already centre-parted when I was a kid,” Jay wrote about this pic he posted on IG Stories.

While it would be easy to just focus on his choice of hairstyle, one thing that stood out (well, at least to us) about Jay’s gallery of photos is how close he is to his mum, Ye Hui Mei, who’s a fine arts teacher. Sure, the singer is famously filial but looking at the pics of a teenage Jay with his mum just makes us want to give our own mum a hug.

While we’re still talking about Jay and IG, two days ago, the singer posted this video of him in concert taken 15 years ago.

“15 years ago… why does it feel like time has gone by so quickly? Does everyone still remember the Incomparable Concert tour? What were you all doing on this day 15 years ago?” wrote Jay, who is 40 this year.

One of the first celebrities to respond to Jay’s post was his protégé, singer Patrick Brasca. “15 years ago, I was only four,” wrote Patrick. While that may have sounded like Patrick was throwing shade at his mentor, Jay didn’t take offence at the comment, and even replied: “Haha I still remember you had asked me to sign on your guitar.”

What no one expected was that Mrs Jay Chou would end up teasing her hubby about his age too. In response to Patrick’s comment, Hannah wrote, “15 years ago, I was…” before adding the Face with Hand Over Mouth emoji. FYI: Hannah is 25, which means she was just 10 when Jay was on his Incomparable tour.

Jay then replied with two Grinning Squinting Face emojis and the words “Tao yan”, which in this case, can be translated as ‘nuisance’.

After all, if there’s anyone Jay dotes on more than his mum, it’s Hannah.
