Jay Chou Reportedly Sending His 2 Kids To An International School That Will Cost Him S$65K A Year

Like his pal and fellow Mandopop star JJ Lin, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou really, really likes cars, and obviously has the financial means to fund his great love for them.

Last week, a Taiwanese tabloid spotted the 41-year-old rolling up to a basketball game in a brand new ride, namely, an iron grey Tesla that’s priced at over NT$3mil (S$140,000). It’s actually considered one of the ‘cheaper’ models he owns, as his garage is also said to contain a McLaren Senna, a Lamborghini Aventador, a Pagani Huayra, a Mercedes-Benz SLR 722, and a Lamborghini SUV, which was a Christmas-slash-birthday present from his wife Hannah Quinlivan.

All in all, it’s estimated that his entire car collection is worth at least NT$600mil (S$27.8mil). Whistles.

Of course, Jay doesn’t just splurge on himself — he’s more than willing to spend big bucks on his loved ones as well. Jay and Hannah have been on the lookout for a good international school for their two children, five-year-old Hathaway and three-year-old Romeo, and they have reportedly settled on a pretty posh-looking academy that, unsurprisingly, doesn’t come cheap.

The place they have selected is believed to be Morrison Academy, an international Christian school. (P/S: One of the school's famous alums is Taiwanese singer David Tao.) It offers courses from kindergarten to secondary level, and there are no more than 10 students per class at a time.

According to Mirror Media, annual tuition costs almost NT$700,000 (S$32,600) for each student, including registration fees. This means that Jay would have to fork out around NT$1.4mil (S$65,000) a year for both Hathaway and Romeo if they really were to sign up. Not that we think it’d be any trouble to someone with a reported net worth of NT$6bil (S$279mil), of course.

This isn’t the first time Jay has been in the news for his international school-hunting endeavours. In 2017, he was rumoured to be enrolling Hathaway at the Taipei European School, which also costs S$65,000 a year, but it looks like he may have changed his mind (or the reports were never true to begin with).

While Jay and Hannah have both apparently agreed to send their kids to an international school, the couple isn’t always on the same page when it comes to their parenting styles and beliefs. For instance, Hannah has confessed that she can be quite an anxious and strict mum who insists on only feeding her babies anything that is free of salt, oil, and seasonings. It was only when she saw a little girl around Hathaway’s age happily eating French fries that she finally decided to loosen up a bit.

Jay, on the other hand, is much more relaxed. Hannah once shared the story of how Jay tried to calm Hathaway down on a flight by promising to let her eat ice cream if she behaves. When Hathaway finally fell asleep, Hannah thought there was no longer any need to give her the ice cream, but Jay insisted on keeping his promise and let his daughter have her treat.

This made Hannah angry, until she considered what he said in response (“If I say it, I’ll do it”) and thought it was the right attitude to have. And honestly, what’s wrong with letting a little kid have ice cream every now and then?
