Kenneth Ma Addresses Girlfriend Jacqueline Wong’s Infidelity: “I Can Only Say That She Is Very Young”

He's a really good boyfriend.

TVB actor Kenneth Ma, who in just one day went from happily-attached guy to guy-whose-girlfriend-made-out-with-another-man, addressed the scandal this afternoon (April 17). The star took time out from filming to meet the Hongkong media who were gathered at TVB. Throughout the four-and-a-half-minute session, the actor appeared cool, if a little worn out. Kenneth, who is known to be one of the nicest and most down-to-earth stars in Hongkong, did not take any questions. The 45-year-old also offered a few weak smiles while talking about his girlfriend Jacqueline Wong and Andy Hui's press con last night.

Here’s a transcript of what he said:

1 of 4 Kenneth greeting the media

“Actually, after finding out what had happened, my anger disappeared very quickly. I was very calm but I quickly became worried. I was worried about those who were involved in the incident.

I don’t want anyone to get hurt. I can only speak a little on her (Jacqueline Wong) behalf. I know she knows that she is in the wrong. I also know that she wants to come out to explain herself to everyone, but the company is concerned that she is still very emotional and is worried that she might say the wrong things so they didn’t arrange for her to speak to everyone.

  • 2 of 4 Mic-ed up

I know she just posted [her apology] on IG, and that is what she wanted to say and she said it. I can only say that she is very young, and that she has a long road ahead of her and a lot of things for her to face in the future, so I hope that everyone can give her some space.

Everyone doesn’t have to worry about me. I will be concentrating fully on work after this, and I hope this will not affect my filming.

Andy has also said his piece but I will not comment [on what he said] because I feel that in this world, no one has the right to say anything [about this incident], other than his wife (Sammi Cheng). Actually no one has the right to say anything.

  • 3 of 4 Family matters

So I hope this matter will blow over soon. The last thing I want to say is that, there have been some media who interviewed my family and I hope everyone can be magnanimous [to them] because my parents are not in showbiz.

All of you media friends are very skilled, and when my mum suddenly has so many microphones pointing at her, she will get scared. She might say the wrong thing. So I hope everyone won't sensationalise what she said.

Whatever she said, could have been under duress, and I will not be responding to what she said to all of you. I just hope everyone not frighten my family because they are not in showbiz.

I can only say that I will be focusing on my own matters in the future. Thank you all for your concern. Please be magnanimous. Please don’t let this incident fester and hurt more people. I hope this matter will blow over soon.”

  • 4 of 4 Time to say goodbye

A reporter than asked if he has broken up with Jacqueline, to which Kenneth replied: “I don’t think I have any more to say.”

In case you’re wondering, when quizzed about the scandal by the media, Kenneth’s mother had said that “showbiz is really messy” and had wondered if Andy and Jacqueline “were acting”. She was also asked about her impression of Jacqueline, to which she said “ordinary”.
