Faye Wong’s an ice queen through and through, and it shows even in her parenting methods. The 51-year-old’s elder daughter, Chinese singer-songwriter Leah Dou, recently held an online concert, where she shared this anecdote about Faye.

According to Leah, 23, Faye had one piece of advice that she’d often dish out to her, particularly when Leah was recounting something that made her happy. And no, it wasn’t something cute or heartwarming, like “I’m glad you’re sharing this with me”, or even a simple “That's nice”.

Rather, Faye’s go-to response was: “Ah, about that, don’t be happy for too long, nothing is permanent”.

Not exactly something we thought a parent would tell a child, but hey, apparently, this unorthodox parenting method worked out well for Faye and Leah (and probably Li Yan too).

Leah shared that at that time, she found Faye’s Debbie Downer response very irritating ‘cos she simply couldn’t understand why Faye was so intent on being such a wet blanket.

But after growing up, and well, becoming more familiar with life, Leah began to understand that Faye had simply wanted to plant a seed in her daughter's heart with her words, to help protect her from the hurt she might experience in the future.
