According to Chinese entertainment website ettoday, an A-list actress with “very high social standing in showbiz” revealed during a recent function that Ching Hsia divorced Michael because she had had enough of his philandering ways. The “powerful and well-connected” actress also revealed that Ching Hsia received HK$2bil (S$350mil) in alimony and that she finally decided to leave Michael now that their daughters are all grown up. Both Ching Hsia and Michael have yet to respond to the allegations. Divorce rumours have plagued the couple for years. In 2012, it was alleged that Michael had a mistress in Shanghai, and that they have a son together. His shocking infidelity was rumoured to have stemmed from his desire to have a son and that he was disappointed that Ching Hsia bore him only two daughters, and that caused a rift between the couple. It was also rumoured that her failing relationship had driven her to depression.

The screen icon’s love life has always been tumultuous to say the least. Her relationships with ’70s Taiwanese matinee idols Chin Han and Charlie Chin were well-documented, and she was even engaged to the latter, though the wedding didn’t take place in the end. She eventually married Michael in the ’90s and singlehandedly raised his daughter from his first marriage. When Ching Hsia gave birth to their first daughter, Michael named the kid Oi Lum, which in Cantonese means ‘Love Lin [Ching Hsia]’. It was a beautiful tribute to one of the most beautiful actresses to grace the silver screen, though, if the most recent rumour is true, also cruelly ironic.
