The Chinese government has been introducing a number of broadcast restrictions on its showbiz industry as of late. The latest set of rules is reported to be a list of “sins” that will earn any celeb an automatic ban from appearing on TV and movies.

1 of 2 Is this the end of Yifei's career in China?

The list of no-nos include bringing in scriptwriters, make-up artists and costume coordinators into the crew through their own connections, putting their own needs and wants above the project’s requirements, showing disrespect for their co-stars, not knowing their lines before going on set, not being able to immerse themselves in their role, along with forcing producers and directors to bend to their will by sabotaging the project.

After the list was revealed, Mulan star Liu Yifei started trending on Weibo as the 33-year-old was rumoured to have brought a scriptwriter she’s close to on board for her drama, The Love of Hypnosis.

Netizens who claimed to have worked on that same project shared that Yifei’s actions caused the director “great distress” as he was unable to communicate and work with said scriptwriter. However, other rumours claim that she commited the 'sin' not on The Love of Hypnosis but on another drama, Legend Of Fei, instead.

2 of 2 We'll have to wait and see if the news is true

These rumours have gained momentum online and netizens have pointed out the ever-dwindling number of actors who are actually not on the banned list.

“First it was Fan Bingbing, now it’s Liu Yifei,” one said, “I don’t understand why the government is being so harsh on celebs who use their connections when the rest of the country is using their connections for everything else.”

Yifei and her agency’s continued silence on the matter has many believing that this could be true, and wondered if she would focusing on her Hollywood career as a result of it.
