McDonald’s Vietnam Apologises For Using Pic Of EXO To Promote BTS Meal
Fans of both K-pop groups were not happy.
McDonald’s Vietnam has incurred the wrath of fans of BTS and EXO after it used the latter group’s pic to promote its limited edition BTS Meal.
The fast-food chain featured EXO in posters in its stores when the meal launched on May 27.
Though you can't see anyone's faces in the poster — both bands have seven members — EXO fans immediately recognised the photo that was used and pointed out that it was taken when the band visited Dubai in 2018.
Fans of both bands flocked to McDonald's Vietnam’s official Facebook page demanding an apology for the error.
BTS fans, who are known as Army, criticised the fast-food giant, saying that such a “low level mistake” is unacceptable for a brand like McDonald’s. The hashtag #McDonaldsApologizeToEXO also started trending on Twitter.
The next day, McDonald’s apologised to fans for its “negligence” and for using the wrong photo in its promotional materials.
“We would like to assure you that such accidents will not happen in the future,” it wrote on Facebook.
The BTS Meal, which features the band’s go-to McDonald’s meal order of a box of nine-piece Chicken McNuggets, large fries, a large drink, and sweet chilli and cajun dipping sauces, has been a massive hit in Vietnam, selling a whopping 10,000 sets when it launched there on May 27.
It was supposed to launch in Singapore on May 27 too but has been postponed to June 21 due to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).
