A-Mei’s Been MIA For The Past Year ’Cos She’s Spending Time With Her Mum Who Was Diagnosed With Colon Cancer In 2018
It's said that her mum's in the midst of recovering from surgery.
Taiwanese singer A-mei’s been awfully quiet on the social front lately, with her last post on Instagram (that’s not a video repost) uploaded on September 2019, exactly a year ago.
Even her 48th birthday, which fell on August 9, was met with radio silence. She was also a no-show at her manager’s wedding as well.
But before you start freaking out, according to Taiwanese media, there’s one very important reason for A-mei’s inactivity.
Then, when the COVID-19 pandemic blew up, A-mei reportedly decided to go on an extended break from work.
As it turns out, the singer has been busy spending time with her family, in particular, her mum, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2018.
While A-mei’s mum has since undergone surgery, and is in the midst of recovering, her health is still considered high risk due to her weakened immune system, which might be why A-mei has turned down all work opportunities of late.
Even when the Taitung provincial office extended an invitation to the singer to perform in their yearly countdown concert, A-mei’s manager could not give a definite answer as to whether the singer will accept the invitation.
But we guess the singer’s perfectly content to spend more time with her family for now, in the sprawling 17,800 sq ft mansion she bought in New Taipei City recently for her mum.
