Michael Miu’s 27-Year-Old Son Just Shot An Underwear Ad
Could this be his first step into showbiz?
It's no surprise to anyone that the kids of Hongkong stars Michael Miu, 61, and Jaime Chik, 58, have found themselves drawn to the spotlight.
In 2009, there were rumours that their daughter Phoebe, now 29, had been invited by TVB to take part in Miss Hongkong. It was said that Michael had turned down the offer on her behalf as Phoebe, who was majoring in psychology then, was more interested in a career behind the camera and had even gone overseas for shoots as a camerawoman.
She would later change her mind and for the past five years, has been carving out a career for herself in Hollywood.
On the other hand, their 27-year-old son Murphy has been working as a visual designer in Canada after graduating from a university there. While he has never shown any interest in joining showbiz, netizens think that his latest move could be a sign that he has plans to pursue a career in the limelight.
His first 'project', apparently, is an underwear ad, where one of the photos show him posing in nothing but peach-coloured briefs while carrying a dog. It's certainly not what you would expect of an underwear ad, which is why some netizens have taken to calling the pics the “most artistic underwear shoot [they've] seen in a while”.
One netizen wrote: “Usually, underwear ads are sexy, with some even trying too hard. This is the first time I’ve seen something that’s so arty, it’s like a breath of fresh air.”
Another wrote, “Usually, I’d be embarrassed to look at underwear ads in public. But for this, I think it’s more like a photo shoot where the subjects happen to not be wearing clothes. This is art!”
No wonder many netizens believe that Murphy is using this ad as a springboard into showbiz.
“Just from looking at these photos, I can tell that he’s good-looking enough to be an actor,” wrote a netizen, adding that Murphy's eyes are so expressive and that he looks like Michael, except only more androgynous, so he can fit a wider spectrum of roles.”
There’s been no comment from the Miu family about whether Murphy is planning joining showbiz, but netizens and the press sure are keeping their fingers crossed.
