Michael Wong’s Eldest Daughter Is Engaged To Her Girlfriend, And This Is What His Wife Has To Say About It
Congratulations to Kayla Wong and Elaine Chen-Fernandez!
Now here’s a piece of legitimate news about a second-gen star getting married. Kayla Wong, the 28-year-old daughter of Hongkong-based Chinese-American actor Michael Wong and his supermodel wife Janet Ma, announced her engagement to her girlfriend Elaine Chen-Fernandez with an Instagram post yesterday (Sep 3).
The news was apparently kept under wraps for quite a while, judging by Kayla’s younger sister Irisa’s repost of the announcement with the caption: “It was so annoying because I couldnt (sic) tell anyone for the longest time. I can finally announce it to the world. Hallelujah.”
When Apple Daily contacted Janet to get her thoughts on her daughter’s engagement, she revealed that Kayla had shared the happy news with her the day before her post went up.
“I’m very happy ‘cos she has managed to find someone she likes and who cherishes her, which is very difficult to find in this world,” said Janet, adding that the couple should be registering their marriage elsewhere, although they are not sure where exactly yet.
As for whether she is pleased with her daughter’s choice of life partner, Janet said: “[Elaine] is a very good person. The most important thing is that Kayla likes her. They are both adults and should be making their own decisions about the path they will be walking together, so all we need to do is be happy for them and give them our blessings.”
According to reports, Michael and Janet had trouble accepting Kayla’s sexual orientation at first, and Janet even revealed that mother and daughter were locked in a cold war for a period of time. Their relationship eventually got better over time, and Elaine has been spotted joining the entire Wong clan for important events, showing that she’s now part of the family.
Kayla and Elaine reportedly met a year ago at a sustainable fashion design competition in Hongkong. They went public with their relationship on their respective Instagram pages late last year, and neither of them shies away from sharing intimate snaps of themselves on their socials.
